Richard Wrobleski Obituary

Richard J. "Dick" Wrobleski Sr., 89, of Scranton, died Tuesday in VNA Hospice at Community Medical Center. His wife is the former Christina Colangelo. The couple was married for 66 years.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Stephen and Sarah Duggan Wrobleski, he attended Scranton schools and was a retired employee of Pennsylvania Gas and Water Co. An Army veteran of World War ll, he served his three-year tour in the 11th Armored Division, General George Patton's "Thunderbolt's Division." He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars and World War ll Victory Medal. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received and the Bronze Star for bravery for carrying a wounded buddy out of the line of enemy fire. He was a member of St. Lucy's Church.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved to cook. The family wishes to thank VNA Hospice and Dr. John Diakiw and Dr. Karen Paczkowski for the care given to Richard.

Also surviving are a daughter, Ann Slater and husband, Leonard; a son, Richard Wrobleski Jr., Mount Cobb; four grandchildren, Michael Slater, Anthony and Angelo Wrobleski and Richard Wrobleski lll; two great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Nieka Wrobleski; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by several sisters and brothers.

The funeral will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. from the August J. Haas Funeral Home Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., with Mass at 11 in St. Lucy's Church, to be concelebrated by the Rev. Louis Grippi and the Rev. Paul Wolenski. Interment, private at the convenience of the family in Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may go directly to the church on Friday.
