Ronald A. Semian (Rondo), 74, of West Scranton, passed away Wednesday, May 22 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Andrew G. and Helen Maskarinec Semian. Ron graduated from West Scranton High School in 1967, and he received his Bachelor of Science in physics from Stephens Institute of Technology in 1971. He was employed for many years as a typesetter with local printshops. Most recently, he retired from the Lackawanna River Conservation Association (LRCA). Rondo was a very eclectic man. He pursued life in his own way by being genuine.
He was one of the founders of the Mulberry Poets and Writers Association. As a member of the association's board, he conducted grant writing, program development and grant administration. His work facilitated hundreds of poetry readings as well as writers workshops and publications across the region over 25 years. His love of the arts led him to be involved in the early growth of the many art and culture groups in the '70s.
Throughout his life, Ron had many interests, including writing, biking, hiking, reading and political involvements. A sports enthusiast, his favorite teams were the Los Angeles Dodges, the Philadelphia Eagles and 76ers. During a clear night, he would often stare into the sky and look into the universe. He has started his new journey. Though Rondo may have left this world, his spirit will forever remain a guiding light for those who were fortunate enough to know him. In his memory, let us treasure the moments shared, the laughter exchanged and the love that he so freely gave.
Left to cherish his memory are a sister, Barbara; many cousins; and dear friends.
