Glenn Weaver Obituary

Glenn Earl Weaver

Port Huron

Glenn Earl Weaver, 94, of Port Huron died Tuesday, September 10, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born September 28, 1918 on a farm in Herrick, Illinois to the late Earl and Addie Weaver.  Glenn was the third child in a family of ten children.  Five boys and four girls survived to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary with their spouses...a wondrous thing.

After graduating high school, Glenn went to work in Aurora, Illinois at Sears where he met his first wife, Anita, and they were married in 1941.  When Anita passed in 1994, they had been married for 53 years.

When World War II started, Glenn enlisted in the Air Force and was assigned to a B-17 Bomber Crew as a Staff Sergeant and armored gunner flying 35 missions over Germany.  After the war, Glenn returned home to work as a salesman at Leath Furniture in Aurora and in 1950 was promoted to manager of Leath Furniture located in the Sperry's building in Port Huron.  After 41 years, Glenn retired from Leath in 1981.

Originally, Glenn came to Port Huron to stay for two years and ended up staying for 63 years.  In 1998, Glenn remarried a wonderful woman, Ruby (Betts) Weaver sharing 15 years of companionship and making fond memories with family and friends.

Glenn made significant contributions to the city of Port Huron and in 2006 received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Spirit of Port Huron Awards Ceremony.  He was a member of the Port Huron Lions Club, an organization dear to his heart. He was also a member of Golden Agers, Charles A. Hammond Post #8, American Legion and Port Huron Lodge #343, B.P.O.E.

Glenn will be remembered for his love of family, dedication to his country and sheer enjoyment of being with and helping others.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby; two sons, James Weaver and Gerald (Jennifer) Weaver; five grandchildren, Matthew Weaver, Marc Weaver, Eric (Haley) Weaver, Douglas Weaver and Maggie (Jason) Ruffin; five great grandchildren, Hudson Weaver, Grayson Ruffin, Paxton Weaver, Harper Weaver and Miles Ruffin; daughters in law, Linda "BL" Weaver, Linda "LL" Weaver and Jennifer Weaver; brothers and sisters, Pauline (Frank) O'Conner, John Weaver, Eugene  Weaver, Alice Trueblood and Mary (Don) Hadden; step children, George (Sharon) Betts, Richard (Sharon) Betts, Donald (Sheri) Betts, Dennis (Kathy) Betts and Karen Rapley; and several step grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by a son, Dale Weaver; two daughters in law, Chris Weaver and Judy Weaver; two brothers, Lloyd and Ken Weaver; and a sister Mae Black.

Visiting hours will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2013 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street, Port Huron with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.  Reverend Robert Chapman will officiate.  Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Honor Guard.

Private burial will be held at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery.
