Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Pineville.

The family requests that visitation be observed at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and resume at the church on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Billie Alice Craig Ryland, 86, of Pineville, passed from this life on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at her residence.

Mrs. Ryland was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed, but will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

Mrs. Ryland was born on 2nd Street in Alexandria, attended Central Grammar School and graduated from Bolton High School. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Louisiana College where she met the love of her life, Evert Ryland. She worked at the Department of Public Welfare for many years. She also served for 14 years as Area Director of the American Heart Association/Louisiana for the nine Central Louisiana parishes.

Mrs. Ryland was a faithful member of East Pineville Baptist Church for many years before rejoining her childhood church, Emmanuel Baptist, where she served her Lord in many ways. She was a vivacious, natural leader and served as a mentor for many. She was a cheerful giver of her time, talent and treasures. Among her many leadership roles were being the director of VBS and WMU and teaching Sunday School; she also chaired various church committees. She was President of the Alexandria Garden Club and was inducted into the club's honorary society, the Circle of Roses.

Mrs. Ryland was very quick-witted and had a great sense of humor even until the end. She enjoyed her morning cup of coffee while gazing out at the lake in front of her house. She leaves a legacy that will live on in those that she loved and touched.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Evert Ryland, Jr. and her parents, William and Alice Stilley Craig.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Evert Kendall Ryland (Katharine Geary), Jane Ryland Bordelon (Richard), Fifi Ryland Rose (Mark), Fern Ryland Walker (Tim), E. Hope Ryland Hennessey (John). Also surviving her are Joanne Hamby, who she loved like a daughter, and her grandchildren: Ruth Ryland Subramanian, Esther Ryland Keul, Daniel Ryland, John Ryland, Laura Bordelon Nelson, Jaclyn Bordelon Curtis, Emily Rose, Evan Rose, William Rose, Timothy Walker, Jr., William Walker, J. P. Hennessey, Jr., Emma Hennessey, Ryland Hennessey, Cole Hennessey, Savannah Rose Hennessey; and her great-grandchildren: Connor Nelson, Nolan Nelson, Jack Keul, Alice Keul, Scout Ryland, and two on the way! She is survived by one brother, Wayne Oliver Craig, and a host of other family members and friends. The family would like to thank her dedicated caregivers, especially Gail Danzy.

The family has designated for memorial contributions: Emmanuel Baptist Church, 430 Jackson Street, Alexandria, LA 71301, or The American Heart Association, https://donatenow.heart.org.

Serving as pall bearers will be Daniel Ryland, Emily Rose, Evan Rose, William Rose, William Walker, J.P. Hennessey, Jr., Ryland Hennessey, and Cole Hennessey. Honorary pall bearers are Thomas Downs, Ruth Subramanian, Esther Keul, Laura Nelson, Jaclyn Curtis, John Ryland, Timothy Walker, Jr., Emma Hennessey, and Savannah Hennessey.

Kendall,Fern , FiFi, Jane & E.Hope, What a wonderful Lady, Ms. Billie was. I was fortunate to have known her, your dad & Uncle I.B.,Aunt Mary & the entire family, since 1982, when I went to work for them at Ryland Dodge, here in Bunkie. When I learned of her passing, I was heart broken that I was not able to go to the visitation, nor the funeral. My husband , Irving, is very ill & there was no way I could leave him alone. Your parents were a Huge part of my life for the entire 22 years I worked for them. I want all of you to know that she comes to my mind Very often. A couple of years after I went to work for them, she and your dad went on a Dodge-Chrysler trip to Spain & Portugal. The day they left, they stopped by the dealership &she came to me desk & told me that she was going to bring me " a Pretty" back from their trip & I remember telling her that she could just bring me a rock from there. Instead, she brought me the Most Beautiful Hand Painted hand held fan, from Portugal. I want ya'll to know that the fan is still in the same pristine condition as when she gave it to me; in the same "Portugal gift bag". I use it every week when I go to church, because it is sometimes too warm for me. It Never ceases to bring compliments & people always want to know Where I got it & I Love telling them the story of how I came to receive it & from whom I got it. I would often , after Mass, call her to tell he I was still using it, & Imagine!, this fan is now over 32 years old !. Thank ALL of you for " sharing" your parents with me & I will Always have them in my thoughts, memories & prayers. They always made me feel as though I WAS an " Honorary Ryland"..My prayers are with you all , but what Amazing , lasting heart felt memories you all have of her & your dad.....Thanks ! Judy Fontenot

It was a wonderful priviledge to have been in Mrs. Ryland's Sunday school class as she taught the bible and how to create church. Mrs Ryland included each one of us in her band of friends. She was a mentor who taught us by example and graciously shared her knowlege, love and comfort to each person who walked into our church house . Her kindness and smile will be missed by anyone who knew her.

At this most difficult time, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Billie Alice seemed to be quite a character, as we had the privilege of being around her several times. She and Evert were blessed with a large family who carries on their legacy. Knowing how fun the Roses are as a family, we can't imagine how crazy it must be when all the Rylands get together.
May God's peace be with you.

You will be in my heart forever. You taught me so many things about my faith, life, cooking, and how to make iced tea. I was lucky to have chosen you as my 2nd mother, but it was really you that picked me and accepted me and loved me like I was one of your own. Your love for you church was only outdone by the love for your family...and me. You have made a difference in my life and I am forever grateful to God for allowing our paths to cross. Rest in Peace Mrs. Ryland. And save me a seat next to you and a cup of coffee.
