Charles Vanderlick Obituary
Alexandria - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Dr. Charles B. Vanderlick, Sr. on Monday, April 12, 2021 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church with Fr. Rusty Rabalais officiating and Fr. Dan O'Connor concelebrating.
It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Charles Blanchard Vanderlick, Sr., 87, on Monday, April 5, 2021. He will be greatly missed by his loving and constantly devoted wife of 60 years, Cecile Helen Ray Vanderlick; and his children, Virginia Norman (Danny), Valerie Diamandakos (Louis), Patti Duncan, Charlie Vanderlick (Melanie), Joey Vanderlick (Dr. Karen), and Andy Vanderlick. He was a wonderful and caring "Grampie" to Laura Kathryn Norman Buise (Jason), Daniel, Christopher, and Jacob Norman; Julia, Michael, Daphne, and Clair Diamandakos; Jerome (Sara), James (Rylee), Mark, and Emilie Duncan; Amy Girtman, Charlie Vanderlick III; Ashley Janzen (Garret), Kallie Maloney (Jacob), Mercy, Joe, Timothy, Drew, Aubrey and Jude Vanderlick; and Tierney and Liam Vanderlick.
Charles was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Blanche Vanderlick; siblings Sr. Virginia Lee Vanderlick, Sr. Cecile Clare Vanderlick, Henry "Sonny" Vanderlick, Cecilia Vanderlick Mathews, and survived by his brother David Vanderlick (Dot); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles was a lifelong resident of Alexandria, Louisiana. He attended Menard High School, Louisiana State University and Loyola Dental School. He served in the US Marine Corps. He practiced Dentistry in Alexandria for 50 years with much care, compassion, and pride. He was a member of the ADA, LDA and CLDA where he served as president. He demonstrated his strong faith and devotion to God as a longstanding member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church and could be seen every Sunday ushering at the 7am Mass. He was a member of the Knights of St Gregory. He enjoyed the outdoors, and his favorite pastimes were to hunt, fish and work in his garden. His lasting legacy to his family was his strong work ethic, quiet and diligent demeanor and deep devotion to his family and faith, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to sincerely thank the kind caregivers from Home Instead, Direct Care, Serenity Hospice Care, St. Josephs Hospice Care, and especially Tabitha, Annella, D'wanna, Chris, Mitzi, Diane and Dr. Barton who allowed "Doc" to remain in his beloved home on Bayou Rapides at the end of his life, and especially our mother, Helen, for her constant and devoted care and love.

Visitation will be at John Kramer & Son Funeral Home on Sunday, April 11 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm with a Rosary recited at 6:00 pm. Visitation will resume on Monday, April 12, 2021, from 9:00 - 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Alexandria Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be Daniel, Christopher and Jacob Norman, Michael Diamandakos, Jerome, James and Mark Duncan, and Dr. Patrick Mathews.
Due to COVID restrictions, masks must be worn in the funeral home and in the church with social distancing.

My sympathies to the Vanderlick family. I grew up just around the bend from the family and I still have fond memories of my first visit to the dentist and how caring and compassionate he was to a small frightened boy.
