Floyd Savage Obituary

Floyd Savage

Floyd Savage, 63, departed this earth to life everlasting with his Lord on the evening of January 14, 2017 at Claiborne Memorial Medical Center in Homer, LA after having a vicious battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). He was laid to rest near his father and mother and brother on Monday afternoon, January 23, 2017 at Butter Cemetery, Forest Hill, LA.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate his life is planned for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Glenmora, LA. Floyd's brother Rev. Stan Savage will deliver the message. Special music will be provided by Clinton Marks (brother-in-law), Lloyd Savage (twin), and Stan Savage (brother). Pianist will be Cchea Savage Nugent, his niece.

Floyd was born in Oakdale, LA on June 19, 1953, the first born of twins. He was the son of the late Earl Cleveland Savage and the late Louella Ryland Savage. He was a resident of Haynesville, LA.

He is survived by one sister, Juanell Savage Marks and husband Clinton of Plano, Texas; two brothers, Stanley Gerald Savage and wife Barbara of Haynesville, LA and twin brother Lloyd Savage and wife Barbara Ann of Cotton Valley, LA; five nieces: Karyn Melea Marks and fiancé Don Warr of Frisco, TX, Shannon Lenore Savage Sanford and husband Sam of Buffalo, TX, Kica Ruth Savage of Charenton, LA, Cchea Del Savage Nugent of Plano, TX and Neka Lyn Savage Mire and husband Eric of Charenton, LA; four grandnephews, Saylor James Nugent and Sonny Aaron James of Plano, TX, Julian Sage Mire and Draven Wayne Mire and one grandniece, Razel Elizabeth Mire, all three of Charenton, LA.; and two daughters, Scarlett Pourciau and Sarah Abudalghussa.

Floyd graduated from Glenmora High School on May 29, 1972. He attended the Houston Police Academy beginning August 21, 1972. He graduated with honors in the top 10 of his class on December 5, 1972 and began his long-time career as a police officer and spent most all of his life putting his life on the line and serving others. He started his police officer career in Houston and ended it in Little Rock. His professionalism and dedication was recognized and rewarded throughout his career while at both police departments. He received many commendation letters from citizens around the Houston area and Little Rock area for his professional handling of duties and was constantly being recognized by his superiors with special commendations as evidenced in his records file from both police departments. He earned the rank of Sergeant while in Houston scoring in the top 5. One outstanding award included special recognition and commendation from Houston's Mayor Kathy Whitmire for conscientious and meritorious service for 10 years. Floyd served as Field Training Supervisor and was singled out to receive the Supervisor Medal and Commendation Award. When he retired he continued to be busy with what he loved to do apart from being a police officer which included carpentry, hunting and fishing, splitting wood, riding his motorcycle, trail bikes, scooters, boating in his canoe and kayak, and repairing just about anything that was broken. There wasn't much that Floyd couldn't do. He loved helping people. He had an outgoing personality and with his keen, sharp wit he was always able to make everyone laugh regardless of the situation. His sense of humor was exceptional. He made his profession of faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was a teenager and was baptized at the First Baptist Church, Glenmora, LA. In November of 2012 he rededicated his life to the Lord and lived the rest of his life as a strong witness for Christ. Before he passed away Floyd said that he was at peace with God and that all was well with his soul. He will be missed by many people who truly loved him.

Memories and Condolences
for Floyd Savage

Not sure what to say?

August 8, 2017

My dear Savage family, though many of you will not know me and many of you will recall who I am, I wanted you to know I have only just learned of my good friend's death. I know there are no perfect words to express the loss you felt and are probably still feeling today, but I still wanted to write you and send my condolences for your loss. I remember the day he graduated from the Police Academy: I sat with Juanell and Clinton, and I do believe Floyd's mother was also there. I will always have good thoughts of those days and the friendship we all shared. I will remember how he loved his family and his friends. May God bless each of you as you remember the memories you shared with your loved one.
Your friend always, Rayanne Sones Bowker

Floyd will be greatly missed
Unfortunately he has left us behind.
Could I have given him more,
Knowing that his life would be so brief?

Yet we must hold to our hope...
Over the earth I will shout
Until I have no breath

So our time here is over
Always I will hold you dear
Vast though the distance may be
Again my sorrow calls...
God will give and take as He sees fit.
Everyone is subjected to His will.
Sincerely

A grieving soul
