Ida Sampson

Ida Sampson passed away at Cabrini Hospital's Grace Home Hospice on December 9, 2015.

Ida was born Ida Rebecca Colvin in Dubach, Louisiana on June 5, 1938 to Charles B. Colvin and Ora Green Colvin. Ida grew up on a farm in Unionville, Lincoln Parish, attended First Baptist Dubach and Dubach High School.

Ida attended Louisiana Tech University and Louisiana College, where she graduated with a degree in Education. After marriage and settling in Alexandria, she spent 20 years in the Rapides Parish School system teaching geometry & algebra at Bolton High School, and a brief time teaching math at Louisiana State University at Alexandria. Her retirement years were spent actively supporting her church, Emmanuel Baptist, in so many ways. She was active in her dedication to Louisiana College, worked for years at the Baptist Employees Federal Credit Union, and as a volunteer at Rapides Regional Hospital.

Ida is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Donald E. Sampson, and by one brother, Lamar Watts Colvin. She is survived by two sons, Donald Jeffrey and wife Trish, of Alexandria, LA and Joel David and wife Whitney of Quincy, Florida. She loved and cherished her grandchildren, Catherine, Taylor, Erin and Matthew.

Ida is also survived by one brother, Charlie Green Colvin and wife Sara, of Unionville, LA, one brother-in-law, Dan J. Sampson and wife Gretchen of Dallas, TX, and by nieces Jana Briggs, Ashley Turner, Anna Clark, and nephews Mark Colvin, Russell Colvin and Chris Colvin.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 19 at 3:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Alexandria with visitation from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the music ministry of Emmanuel Baptist Church, or the charity of your choice.

Ida Sampson was my geometry teacher at Bolton, and she was the Bruin Business sponsor. She was an awesome teacher and person. I am so sorry that she has left us.
