Mildred "Millie" Ann Acres Houston

Colfax - Services for Mildred "Millie" Ann Acres Houston will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 26, 2021, at Colfax United Methodist Church with Rev. Nathaniel Langford officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 PM on Friday, March 26, 2021, in Blackjack Cemetery, under the direction of Kramer of Colfax.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of service on Friday, March 26, 2021, at Colfax United Methodist Church.

Millie is preceded in death by her husband, James Rodney Houston; her parents, M.I. "Mic" Hudson and Marguerite Bass Hudson; father, Charles H . Acres; brother, Ralph Hudson; and parent-in-laws, H. Elbert Houston and Ollie Calhoun Houston.

Millie was a graduate from Kinder High School in Kinder, Louisiana. She received a degree in education at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana and a Master's in English Education from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. Millie taught for 33 years, most of which was spent as a high school English teacher in the Grant Parish School system. She loved teaching kids about literature, proper grammar and how to write a term paper. She also served as the Student Council Sponsor for many years while at Grant High School. She loved drinking coffee with friends, watching her sons play sports and most of all, her four grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory includes J. Sloan Houston (son) and his wife, Kari, of Branson, MO and R. Blain Houston (son) and his wife, Toni, of Baton Rouge, LA; four grandchildren Madeline Novak and her husband Deklan, James Ryan Houston, Hudson Houston and Brennan Houston; one great-grandchild, Violet Novak, and three brothers, Charles Acres, Mel Acres and Kevin Acres.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Jason Alston, Mason Dodge, Aaron Slater, Tim Moran, Travis Vallee, and John Bonnette.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sammy Bonnette, Niels DeGode, Ronnie Sonnier, and Jerry Nettles.

The family requests memorials be made to the Colfax United Methodist Church or the Grant High Student Council.
