Robert Laborde Obituary

Robert Roland Laborde Sr.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert Roland LaBorde, Sr. will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Rev. Scott Chemino officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Cottonport. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, February 22, 2016, and 8:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday in the chapel of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home. A wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday followed by the recitation of the Holy Rosary by the Knights of Columbus.



Roland LaBorde, 82, of Bunkie, died peacefully on February 19, 2016, at Bayou Vista Manor Nursing Center.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hennesy and Mildred LaBorde, his brothers Fenwick LaBorde and Jerry Lee LaBorde, and his sister Peggy LaBorde Blanchard.

Roland was born on March 30, 1933 in New Orleans to Hennesy and Mildred LaBorde. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Roland loved God, his family and his community. He was an active and dedicated member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Parish Council Member, Catechist for 15 years, and Usher. He was a 3rd Degree in the St. Anthony Council Knights of Columbus for 50 years serving as the group's financial secretary for 30 years. During his professional life, Roland served 38 years at Cleco Corporation before retiring in 1993. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he was kind and generous. He loved his family deeply, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was dedicated to the Knights of Columbus. His time at Bayou Vista was spent in joy as he loved those who cared for him.

Roland is survived by his loving wife of almost 63 years, Mary Yetta Juneau LaBorde of Bunkie, LA; sisters Peggy Dubea of Fifth Ward and Eola LaBorde Lajeunie (Wayne) of Fifth Ward; his 4 children, Debbie LaBorde Morace (Cecil) of Bunkie, LA; Connie LaBorde Francois (Glenn) of New Iberia, LA., Pam LaBorde (Patrick Prudhome) of Lake Charles, LA, and Robert Roland LaBorde, Jr. (Missy) of Alexandria, LA.; along with nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers honored to serve for their grandfather will be grandsons Jason Corkran, Nicholas Francois, Derek Corkran, Matthew LaBorde, Dorjan Toups, Korey Purvis and long-time friend, Gerald Rabalais. Honorary Pallbearers will be Glenn Francois, Cecil Morace, and Patrick Prudhome.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Anthony Council #2395 Knights of Columbus at P.O. Box 223, Bunkie, LA 71322 for the KC Hall window project or to the St. Anthony Catholic School 116 S. Knoll St, Bunkie, LA 71322 for the LaBorde Memorial Project. Roland served many hours in volunteer service to both organizations.
