Richard Thomas Bruning

January 14, 1963 – September 12, 2024

Third generation Grass Valley native Richard Thomas Bruning passed away on September 12, 2024 at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital at the age of 61. He was born January 14,1963 at the Jones Hospital in Grass Valley, CA to William and Nancy (Terrill) Bruning.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Lion's Club, 5667 Fruitland Road, Marysville, CA.

Richard graduated from Nevada Union High School in 1981 and went on to work for Pacific Gas & Electric in 1984. Richard started his 37-year career working alongside his father digging holes in the Feather River canyon. He then became a journeyman lineman which led him to eventually become PG&E's youngest crew foreman that they had at that time. Richard was promoted to a front line supervisor where he was watching over the Grass Valley and Marysville GC yards. Richard loved his guys and took a great deal of pride in knowing that they were always in high demand when any storm damage or fire restoration was needed.

He and his guys were thought of as the "Dream Team". Richard loved his job and linework was in his blood but he finally hung up his hard hat in 2021 as he entered retirement. In 1988, Richard married Cindy Griffis and this last April they celebrated 36 years of marriage, 41 years together. They have three children, Lacy, Justin and Megan, and two grandchildren, Beau and Brooklyn.

Being a grandpa was everything to Richard and he could never get enough of them.

Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, canning, cooking, Nevada County history, and he was also known for his salsa! He was a member of the Nevada City Sportsman's Club.

He will be greatly missed by all. Richard left a mark on everyone he met and his spirit and memories will live on.

He is survived by his wife Cindy, his children, Lacy, Justin, Megan, grandchildren Beau and Brooklyn, his mother Nancy Bruning, his brother Rob Bruning, and his three bloodhounds. He's preceded in death by his father, William Bruning, and grandparents Thomas Lloyd and Iris (Commons) Terrill, and Edwin and Wenona (Davies) Bruning.
