George Bruning Obituary

Dec 20, 1956 - Feb 13, 2026

George H. Bruning, 69, of rural Everest died unexpectedly at the Hiawatha Hospital surrounded by his family on February 13, 2026. He was born in Horton December 20, 1956, the youngest of Rex E and Pauline B (Streeter) Bruning.

George graduated from Horton High School in 1974 and attended Highland Community College before marrying Jane E (Miller) on June 19, 1976 in Highland, KS.

As a lifetime resident of Brown County, George had many passions including farming, livestock, coaching, circle dirt track racing and supporting all endeavors his kids and grandkids had. George worked for Brown County for over 30 years before retiring as Noxious Weed Director in 2022.

George served the Lord as a lifetime member of the Everest Christian Church as an Elder and Trustee and also was a member of the Gideons International.

George's love ran very deep for his family. Survivors include his wife, Jane, of the home. Children: Jacob (Rachel) Bruning, Melissa (Marc) Pisacka, and Jessica (David) Paden. Grandchildren: Taylor McAfee (Celso Garcia), Rex (Deni) Bruning, Kaitlyn McAfee (John Helm), Daspin Bruning (Tom Nolte), Madelyn (Eli) Coleman, Tommi-Anne McAfee (Isaiah Cortes), Luke McAfee, Carlee Paden, Rowdy Bruning, Amelia Paden, Gus Pisacka, and Everly Paden and 9 Great-Grandchildren. Also survived by his siblings: Gary Bruning and Paula (Alan) Hazelwood. Brother-in-laws: Greg Miller, Doug (Linda) Miller and sister-in-law Ellen Beaman and multiple nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents, sisters-in-law Norma Bruning & Joyce Miller and brother-in-law Larry Beaman.

A celebration of George's eternal life is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 21, at the Everest Christian Church with Pastor Dan Burns and Tony French officiating. Private family burial will be at the Miller Cemetery, Everest.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha, may call after 10 a.m. until 3 Thursday. The family will meet with friends from 5 until 7 p.m. that evening at the Church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Everest Christian Church or Muscotah Cancer Support Group, sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., Hiawatha 66434.
