Ann Nevins Obituary

Ann E. Nevins, R.N., 53 of Woodridge Drive, Saunderstown, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family and friends on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, after a courageous 7-year battle with breast cancer. She was the beloved wife and soul mate of Gary J. Nevins.
Born in Providence, Ann was the only child of James and Ruth English of East Greenwich.
A graduate of R.I. Community College of Nursing, she began her medical career as the office manager and good friend of Dr. Joseph Procaccini, M.D., of Johnston. She then worked for several years at Rhode Island Hospital on the 6th floor. Ann took a position with the Providence VNA as a hospice nurse until 2001, when she left to take a position in nursing at South County Hospital where she was still employed.
Above all, Ann adored spending every minute of her life with her beloved family, especially her two new granddaughters who meant the world to her, as well as a wonderful circle of friends who were there every day for her – especially during these last seven years of treatment.
She was a wonderful nurse who treated every patient she encountered with total respect, compassion and dignity; in return, she touched so many lives and was truly loved by all who knew her. Ann was truly a beautiful and very special person and only God knows why she was taken from us so soon. Her beautiful and ever-present smile, and her outpouring of love will be deeply missed by all.
Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Fontes, her husband Jeremy and their 6-month-old daughter Hannah Elizabeth of Coventry, and Melissa Grillo, her husband Antonio and their 5-month-old daughter Julia Ann of Westerly. Ann is also survived by her mother-in-law and very special loving friend Cecelia Nevins of North Kingstown, and her brother-in-law, Stephen Nevins, Ph.D., of Syracuse, N.Y.
Funeral from Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick, Monday at 8:45 a.m. with a funeral service in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 55 Main St., Wickford. Calling hours Sunday 3 to 7 p.m. Burial in R.I. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Oncology Dept., R.I. Hospital, P.O. Box H, Providence, R.I. 02901. Information and condolences may be left at www.carpenterjenks.com.

Ann was one of the nicest people I worked with. Always kind and helpful to everyone. I remember she brought me a pair of handmade knitting needles her Dad had made. She was a team player and we all
worked together to get things done for our patients.

I am so sorry to hear about Ann. Although I did not know her well, I saw her now and then over many years in my work for a pharmaceutical company. Her demeanor was always pleasant and her smile was radiant. I extend my deep sympathy to all of her family and to her friends.

Gary, Jen and Melissa:

My dad broke the news to me, and I was shocked to hear what happened. It's been a few years since I've seen you all, but I know my parents were close to you guys for many years. I wish I could have been there for the services, but I'm currently deployed in Antarctica with the Air National Guard.

On behalf of myself and my wife, Christine, our deepest condolences.

Dear Gary and Girls,

Ann was so nice to know and was such a great fighter. Ann held her ground and with that showed how much she loved her husband and
her children. Ann was loved by all
who met her and was a joy, we only had the pleasure of meeting her once and it was a delight.

You are all lucky to have lived and laughed with your wife and mother she is always going to be close to you until you all meet again.

Please accept our sincere sympathy.

I worked at CCRI when Ann was a student. I've never been in touch since she left but was devastated reading about her passing. May God grant you the strength to remember all the good times and see her in your grandchildren -- she will live on in them, believe me --

Gary’s beautiful tribute says it all but because you mean so much to me; I’m going to give it a try…Although you are physically gone from your circle of family and friends, we will always have you in our hearts. Our hearts are broken but we will allow them to heal because we know that is your wish. Our first thoughts will be of you and we will check in with you every day. We will be blessed to have your spirit and grace in times of difficulty. You have helped us all through so many difficult experiences and now we have the most special angel to watch out for us... I have to thank Gary and the girls for their incredible courage in allowing your journey to be shared. We can’t imagine a life without you but we have been trying to prepare silently, along with you, over the last seven years. I wish we could retire the word “Ann” and let it stand for all that is beautiful and good in life. But, we also want to think and hear that word, every day. We need to. I won’t say “Goodbye” to you, my dear. dear friend and sister. Till we meet again…..
