Elaine Champlin Obituary
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Chris DiPaola (Lana) and Jaime Wager (Tristan), Joe Ferraro, Michael McGuire (Melissa), Ricky Champlin (Morgan), and Samantha Bazydlo (Wayne); a great-grandson, Haidan Thomas DiPaola; a step-great-grandson, Adrian Reno; and "Gram" to Josh Coulter.
Elaine was born in Massachusetts on Feb. 22, 1929 and never lost her distinctive Boston Brahmin accent. She moved to Westerly, where she with worked with her husband to establish and operate Richard Champlin Crane & Excavating, which continues to be operated by her son, Richard. Elaine continued as secretary and Treasurer until the end of June.
Elaine was a long-time school bus driver for the Westerly Public Schools and was one of the first women to serve as a driver.
She was fan of both stock-car and drag racing - and was the leading crew member for her family's racing teams.
Elaine was also an avid bowler for many years.
She was a member of the Dunn's Corners Fire Department Women's Auxiliary, where her husband Cappy served for many years as an officer and as chief.
Her grandchildren were the center of her life - she spent many hours caring for all of them, enabling her children and their spouses to pursue their careers.
Elaine enjoyed traveling across the country and did so extensively with her children and grandchildren.
Elaine was well-known for her dedication to and fierce support of her family and for her strong and vocal opinions on matters of local importance.
Calling hours will be held at Buckler-Johnson Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly R.I., on Wednesday, July 9, from 4 to 7 pm.
A funeral service will be held at Dunn's Corners Presbyterian Church on Thursday, July 10, at 10 a.m.
At Elaine's request, donations in lieu of flowers in Elaine's memory may be made to Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 1085 North Main St. Providence RI 02904.

Although I did not know Mrs Champlin,I saw her driving around DC for many years. She seemed to be everywhere. She must have been a wonderful mother because her children ( I only know Nadine and Chris) are kind thoughtful honest and sincere human beings.
