As a boy many weekends in the summer were spent with Freddy and Joannie at the cottage at Weekapaug, with my mom and dad and brothers Jim and Dave. We enjoyed many long hours on the beach, or walking the dogs "Piper" and "Tippy" along the breachway or around the neighborhood, stopping at "Lambs" store for an ice cream on the way home. Fred and my dad would play hours of horseshoes or walk down to see the boats where Fred was "Harbormaster". Hot dogs on the grill or Glolumpki (Polish stuffed cabbage) that my mom would make for Fred, it was one of his favourites. Whenever we were down in the States during the summertime in the past couple years, Norma Jean and I would go to visit Fred & Joan (before 2012) at the Cottage, and then later on just at 17 Starview Lane, and in recent years at the Westerly Health Center. He was always kind to us. He will be missed.

Fred was a wonderful friend to my sister, Barbara Hamm, who also resided at the Westerly Health Center and were dining room buddies! Ironically, Barbara passed away last Friday October 25th at the Westerly Hospital. Her service is Sat 11/2 or I would certainly be at Fred's. My deepest sympathy to his family, especially his nieces who visited him. He was a very sweet man. Their friendship was special.
