Harold E. Palmer

1925 - 2023

Harold E. Palmer, 97, of Hope Valley, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family on Friday, October 20, 2023. He was the husband of the late Marie I. (Smart) Palmer. Born in Westerly, RI on November 19, 1925, he was the son of the late Harold A. and Eva J. (Erbig) Palmer.
Harold was a proud veteran of the Navy serving in two wars, World War II and Korea, receiving multiple medals and awards for his service. After retiring from the Navy, Harold continued to work before retiring from Bostitch. In his retirement, he continued to work at The Paragon while enjoying time with his family. He was raised in Ashaway and lived in Hope Valley for his entire life and enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, traveling, farming, walking his dog Chubba, and playing cards. He also had the honor to go to DC on a Veteran's honor flight to commemorate his service. All throughout his life Harold enjoyed the time he spent with his family and the community and was privileged to meet so many great friends.
He leaves behind five children, Bonnie and her husband Joseph Mackenzie, Patricia and her husband Paul Santerre, Kathy Palmer, Harold A. (Happy) Palmer and his fiancée Karen Colozzi, and Wanda and her husband Cameron Lynch; his sister Catherine Jordan (age 102); many grandchildren as well as many great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Dorthey Lafon, his brother Roy Palmer, and his twin brothers Edwin (Gene) and Elwin (Gerald) Palmer; his daughter Claire Mathieu, his daughter-in-law Dawn Palmer; his granddaughter Mary Ellen Palmer, his grandson Peter Letterle, and his grandson Corey Palmer.

Family and friends are invited together at the S.R. Avery Funeral Home, 3A Bank St., Hope Valley, RI 02832 from 10:00am to 11:00am on Friday, October 27, 2023. A celebration of life will follow the calling hour beginning at 11:00am at the funeral home. After the service, all are invited to join in procession for burial with military honors at Oak Grove Cemetery.
