My condolences to the Macomber family and all of John's friend. I met John and Mary when we moved to the neighborhood in 2010. They welcomed us warmly and helped make us feel at home here. He was a real gentleman who loved his family and life. I really enjoyed talking to them when we were out and about. John and I had many interesting conversations about Westerly which he knew so well. I particularly enjoyed talking with him about WWI, as his Dad and my grandfather both served in "The Great War." The neighborhood and Westerly are not quite the same for me now that he has joined Mary, but I know he was a man that made the lives of others much richer. He will be missed!

Macomber family,
The word Mr. fit's him to a T, a true gentleman, kind, polite, smart, and a man who help make me walk the path I did during my lifetime on mother earth. I recall him as the coach of the Central Baptist Church Basketball team.
I observed him walking many times along Elm St.
I knew he worked at Moore's Mill for many years.
It was Mr. Macomber who allowed me and my buddies from the Village of White Rock to play basketball against him team at Moore's Mill.
To us it was like playing in Madison Square Garden as we always played outside on a dirt court.
I am presently at my winter home in Florida and unable to attend his services. This man left a footprint for others to follow. I am sure he met with Mr. Joseph Quartella on the other side as they were members on the Moore's team and both great men to learn from. Where we are now, he was. Where he is now, we shall be.

To the Macomber Family,
Such wonderful memories both retold of my mother´s childhood (your dads neighbor) and my father´s classmate (WHS Class of 1947) as well as my own experiences afforded with your family throughout the years. Your father was a unique human being who had a genuine quality which made others around him feel accepted and welcome. Hold on to his infinite love and let it be your guiding light as you continue his legacy. With support of you all during this challenging time.

I knew John for most of the second half of his life. I have never known a man as devoted to his wife, family, fellow man, God, country and his community. I am proud to have been able to call him my friend and thankful for the example he set for all of us lesser men. My sympathy and prayers are with all of you as you cope with this loss.
