John Robert "Bobby" Welch

1930 - 2023

John Robert (Bobby) Welch of Westerly, RI passed away peacefully on November 13, 2023. Born on October 3,1930 to Thomas and Mary (Horgan) Welch of Springfield, MA. As well as his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Barbara (Fusco) Welch, his sister Estelle Morin, his brother Doug Welch, his sister Mary Ann Goonan and his grandson Frank Baginski. Bob was employed for 43 years in the metal forging industry as a Quality Assurance manager. Bob built a home in Misquamicut Beach, RI where he and Barbara enjoyed over 30 years of retired living. He is survived by his four children, Mike Welch of Indian Orchard, MA, Sue Welch of Westerly,RI, Judy Baginski of Agawam, MA and Jim Welch (Sandy) of Southwick,MA. He is also survived by siblings Kay Fox and Tom Welch, as well as 5 grandchildren, 13 great grand children and 1 great great grandson and many nieces and nephews. Bob enjoyed golf, antique cars and aviation. He achieved his private pilots license, flying all over New England. In later years he took up hiking, reaching MT Monadnock NH summit several times with family. Bob was very proud of his Irish heritage and was a life member of the John Boyle O'Reilly Club and the Sons of Erin, in MA. Bob was a volunteer at the Westerly Hospital for over 20 years and was always there for anyone in need of a helping hand. His presence will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. The family would like to thank the dedicated and compassionate staff of Apple Rehab Clipper and Continuum Care Hospice of RI.
