Joyce Dionne Obituary

Joyce E. (Morris) Dionne, 85, of Westerly, RI, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022 at the Westerly Health Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph W. Dionne and together they shared 64 years of marriage. Born September 4, 1936 in the house her father built, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Calista (Kenyon) Morris.
Joyce was a long time secretary for the Westerly Public School Department. She held positions at the Superintendent's office, and in the secondary and elementary schools. She especially treasured her time at Dunn's Corners Elementary.
Joyce was a skilled seamstress and tailor. She enjoyed surf casting in Weekapaug (she proudly landed a 38 lb striped bass), loved working in the yard, hiking, kayaking and was an avid beach goer. Joyce walked with purpose every day, often distributing dog treats along the way.
Together Joyce and Joe enjoyed parades, fireworks, going out for ice cream, and eating lunch at Cap'n Jacks. Spray Rock, the site of their engagement, was always a favorite destination especially during stormy days.
She was a founding member of the Dunn's Corners Community Church, Presbyterian and proudly sang in its Choir for over 65 years. She was deeply involved in many facets of church life, including bible study, fellowship, youth activities, and maintenance of the memorial garden. As a Deacon, she organized nursing home visits and was a dedicated visitor to the residents.
Joyce was intelligent, loyal, loving, caring, determined and extremely creative (think MacGyver). She was passionate about her grandchildren and they felt the same way about her. She celebrated them as individuals and nurtured their interests.
Joyce is survived by her children Ann Twomey (John), Bruce Dionne (Jennifer), and Amy Dionne; her grandchildren Matthew, Kaela, Andrew and Stephen; her great-grandchildren Benjamin, Tyler, Ava, Calista and Noah; her sister Nancy (Morris) Schilke (Ed); brother-in-law John Dionne (Angela); many nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Judith (Morris) Crandall.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the Choir at Dunn's Corners Community Church, Presbyterian, 221 Post Rd, Westerly, RI 02891.
Joyce received wonderful care at the Westerly Health Center from many
nurses, CNA's and support staff. Joyce's family would like to personally thank Jeanette, RN's Sandy and David, and CNA's Jessica, Deb K., and Trisha. We would also like to thank the many advocates from Hope Hospice for their guidance, love and support.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Dunn's Corners Community Church, Presbyterian Westerly. Masks are encouraged for all guests attending the service. There are no calling hours and committal services are respectfully omitted. Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, RI is assisting the family with arrangements.
