Kenneth Fontaine Obituary

Kenneth L. Fontaine, 66, of Pawcatuck, formerly of Taftville and Norwich, passed away Monday, July 9, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves his beloved wife of 43 years, Maria (Küblböck) Fontaine.
He was born on Jan. 13, 1941, in Norwich, the son of the late Victor and Lucille (Frechette) Fontaine. He attended Norwich Free Academy and the University of Hartford.
Ken began working for Amstar Corporation at age 16, and as a visionary with great entrepreneurial skills he purchased the company and became the founder and CEO of AMGRAPH Packaging, Inc. 27 years later. His company continues to flourish and grow today under the leadership of his children.
He was very committed and passionate about many things, the first being his family. He was also a longtime communicant in the Catholic Church, attending the Seminary of St. Philip Neri in his youth. Ken loved yachting and boat racing and was a member of the Westerly, Watch Hill and New York yacht clubs.
Ken was well known for his kind heart and generous nature and was always quick to help those who were less fortunate.
He will be sadly missed by his loving family and his many friends and business associates.
Besides his wife, Maria, he is survived by his daughter Michelle Fontaine and her fiancé Chris Calkins, and his two sons, Michael and his wife Monik, and Kenny and his wife Adriana.
Opa, as he was lovingly called, will also be missed by his five grandchildren, Dana, Daniela, Maya, Mirra and Aidan.
He also leaves his brothers, Victor and Jack Fontaine, and a sister, Kathy Wadka as well as many relatives in the Taftville area. He was predeceased by his sister Loretta Fontaine.
Calling hours were held at the Church and Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2007.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on today at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Cathedral, 213 Broadway, Norwich.

I had the opportunity of knowing Ken through a business relationship with the people of Amgraph Packaging. Ken was a friendly, caring individual who while very savvy, was also fair. It was a pleasure knowing Ken and I'm sad to see him go. All we have in life are the relationships we forge with the people we meet. Ken stood out among the best. I wish my best to the entire family. God Bless.
