While I was working as a nurse at WHM many years ago, I met Minnie who'd visit her Mother daily. Minnie was a vivacious, sweet lady, always had a smile! She often spoke about all the pasta dishes she'd be making, hence I dubbed her "Minnie Ravioli" which she got a kick out of! 99yrs old a life well lived. I feel blessed to have met such a fine lady!

Michelle and Joy, and certainly to your extended family:

Neighbors and friends, lifelong connections. Not everyone gets to experience these bonds. I grew up in five backyards (including ours) that were connected and facing into each other. Technically there was a sixth that connected to one, and faced into the five. All the people became friends.
The ones I've known the longest are the Ravenelles. That connection reached back to Arthur and Tom,Sr.'s boyhood. Two Pawcatuck boys built houses in Westerly and raised their families within a handshake from each other. Neighbors and friends. This is an important formative dynamic that forges a lifelong positive spirit and an optimistic outlook. As far back as I can reach in my memory Minnie was a presence. I remain thankful for the values I developed growing up in those five backyards. Without ever even knowing it, everyone there contributed something positive to my life just by the way they lived their own lives. Minnie was the last remaining member of her generation that created that neighborhood. Without her even knowing it, she continued to inspire and encourage me when I became aware of her self reliance and independence right up to the age of 99.
May we all be able to duplicate her example!
My best thoughts are with you all, and although there will certainly be
sadness in the coming days, I wish for all the peace, serenity, grace and gratitude for having been gifted the example set by your Mom.
Love to all,
Dan

I could never express in words how I feel about losing Minnie. On my visits back home, the stop on State Street was one of my favorites. Minnie would get out the little golden glasses and the blackberry brandy. She was always so happy we stopped in. She was the last mom to be with us in our little neighborhood. One packed so full of memories.
It would be so hard to express how much of my childhood is tied up with Arthur, Minnie, Michelle and Joy. I am happy she lived a good long life but is it ever really long enough? No. What a treasure we had in good people, living a simple life, enjoying family and neighbors. Joy and Michelle, my heart aches for both of you, as well as the rest of Minnie´s people. But, I know we are all holding tight to the memories we share.
