Shawn Gooding Obituary
Born in Middletown, CT, Shawn grew up in Westerly, R.I., attending school here and later graduating from The Met School in Providence in 2006. He held a variety of jobs after high school but most recently established his own business, Painting and More, drawing upon his technical and artistic skills to be his own boss.
Shawn was a loving father, fiancée, son, brother and friend. His passions included animals, camping, outdoor activities, cooking, travel, and working out. Shawn is survived by his son, Jake, his fiancée, Amanda Kolesar, his parents Antonio Gooding and Julie White-Gooding, his brother and sister-in-law, Shann and Liz, his sister, Donna, as well as other family members around the country.
Calling hours will be on Friday, April 27, 2018, from 4-8 p.m., at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly. A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 11 a.m., with internment to follow at River Bend Cemetery.

To the family and friends of Shawn,
Shawn will be missed greatly by everyone that had the great privilege of meeting him and the even luckier people that got to know him well over the years. He was a great guy always smiling, joking around or giving hugs to anyone he knew especially friends. He looked after friends & family and he was the rare person to look after complete strangers in an emergency or if they needed any help.

From the moment I first met you we just clicked, and ever since then we shared a special bond. We may not have seen each very often, but you were always close in my thoughts and prayers everyday. My deepest condolences to your family. Being as young as your son was he has changed and touched so many people's lives- it is absolutely incredible the impact Shawn has had on an entire community. From the young, energetic, rambunctious 14 year old I remember from the Met to the amazing father and humble man he has become - Shawn never ceased to amazed me. You should be very proud of this young man. He was the light in many, many peoples lives - he will truly be missed.

We can never know how many lives young Shawn touched, but I am sure it was many. He did devote his short life to helping as many as he could. That makes it even more difficult to understand why he left us. Shawn there were so many more people you could have helped. Shawn has been a part of my family since he became friends with my daughter Carlie in middle school. I am going to miss his smile and his laughter. My heart breaks for each and every one of you. As a parent, the thought of burying a child is unnatural and unbearable. As a spouse, not waking up to that person, each day, would be empty.
