JoAnn Linda Larson, the daughter of John A. and Clarinda (Lewis) Larson of Fertile, MN, was born on December 1, 1936. Joie went to a one room country school a mile from where she lived. She began her freshman year of high school in Fertile and graduated in 1954. Joie moved to Fargo, ND, where she began her 45-year banking career with First National Bank.
Joie met Lloyd Heckman from Valley City and got married on June 16, 1979, in Moorhead, MN. They made their home in Valley City where she continued working with First National Bank, Valley City branch as a teller. She also worked at Hilltop Café as a waitress for a time. As the bank changed ownership over the years, Joie retired from Wells Fargo Bank in 1999. Lloyd passed away on September 26, 1995.
After her retirement, she was a part-time care giver for several ladies in Valley City, running errands for them, picking up groceries and taking them to lunch. In 2021, Joie ended doing care giving but continued to spend time visiting her many friends.
Joie was the type of person that couldn't say no. She enjoyed being around people and had a very good sense of humor and loved jokes. She always greeted you with a smile. Joie loved her chocolates. She liked the "bling" but not over doing it.
