Ada Gluth Obituary

Ada Lorraine Gluth

Ada Lorraine Gluth born to Adelaide (Powell) and Harry W. Salstrom in Crescent City, January 10, 1924, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2008 in Visalia, CA.

Ada had polio and tuberculosis during her childhood but always faced any problem with a smile. She graduated from high school in Crescent City. The family moved to Eureka where she met Harold C. Gluth who was in the Coast Guard aboard the Shawnee. They were married in Eureka October 4, 1944. Ada worked at the Liberty Theater and Kress until the war ended when Harold and Ada moved to San Jose while Harold attended college and Ada worked for J.C. Penney Company. They lived in Stockton while attending Pacific College, then moving to Arizona and Canada, finally settling in Porterville until Harold was in an auto accident. At that time they moved to Visalia to be near medical facilities. Ada was a long time member of the Methodist Church and had many friends from the church in Visalia who will remember her fondly for her smile. One friend, Glenda, visited her every Monday while she was in Westgate Gardens Convalescent, as well as many other friends. However, she didn’t remember the names during her last few years at Westgate. The family is thankful for her friends who remembered her and kept in touch with her through the years. The years spent at Westgate Garden were very happy for Ada. Several of the employees told us that Ada was always very happy and smiling. During her first few years at Westgate, Ada was the president of the residents for one or two years. She loved being involved in the many activities and especially enjoyed the music presented by members of the community.

Ada’s mother and father preceded her in death. Her husband, Harold, of 43 years in 1987, preceded Ada in death. Sisters: Violet Swanson and Elvira Jensen. Brothers-in-law: Ival Swanson and Raymond Jensen. Nephews: Michael Salstrom and Raymond Jensen, Jr. Niece: Kathryn Salstrom Weaver and her new husband Daniel Weaver.

Her children, Jary Gluth (Grey Eagle) of Alturas, CA, Gary Gluth of Shasta Lake, CA and Mija Potter of Benton, AK, survive her. Grandchildren: Helen and Alicia of Arizona, Harmony of Visalia and Candy of Pine Bluff, AK. She is also survived by her sisters: Myrtle Carlson and Mildred Rasmussen of Eureka, brother: Leland Salstrom (Fran) of McKinleyville. Nieces and nephews: Sherry Rasmussen of Eureka, Melissa Bolton (Peter) of Post Falls, ID, Rebecca Salstrom-Graves (Walter) of Eureka, Marie Jenkins of Willits, CA, Sonja Svendsen of Fortuna and great nieces and nephews: Catherine (Joe) of Athol, ID, Jacob (Ashley) of Hydesville, Caleb and Ezra of Eureka, Ronnie and Ronan of Fortuna and Lisa and Kelly. Ada is also survived by several other great-great nieces and nephews

On March 7, 2008, Ada’s final resting place was beside her beloved husband at Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose. No funeral services were held.
