Catherine McCutchen Obituary

Catherine Leona McCutchen

Catherine was born September 12, 1924, in Marcola, Oregon, to John and Edna Derrick. She passed away at age 81 on Thursday, July 20, 2006, in Fortuna, California.

Catherine grew up in Santa Barbara, California, enjoying the country life on an orchard farm with her family. In 1941 her family moved to Roseburg, Oregon, where she completed high school. She met the love of her life and best friend, Robert McCutchen in 1947; they were married October 2,1948 in Salem, Oregon. Bob and Catherine moved to Fortuna in 1953, where they raised their four children. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, ceramics, needlework, sewing, and being a 4-H leader. Bob and Catherine spent a lot of time at their cabin at Ruth Lake; she loved some of those early morning fishing trips. They enjoyed many years touring the United States in their motor home. Mom always loved to come home to her family and garden.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edna Derrick; brothers, Virgil and John Derrick; and grandson, Derrick Ferreira.

She is survived by her husband, Bob McCutchen; children, Bob Jr. (Vicki) McCutchen of Fortuna, Judi (Louis) Ferreira of Arcata, Russell (Linda) McCutchen of Coatesville, PA, and Larry McCutchen of McKinleyville; grandchildren, Tina Fasano, Brian, Eric and Darin Ferreira, Jenny Gable, Katie Wesley, Russell and Tasha McCutchen, Jay and Cassie McCutchen. Grandma “KeeKee” survived by great grandchildren, Shelbi, Ryan and Tauni Fasano, Cecelia and Bria Ferreira, and Hannah Gable. Also survived by her sisters-in-law, Lois Derrick, Pearl Derrick, Jeannine Altermatt, Wynona Bilinski, Mary Michael; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many close friends.

The family thanks the staff of Redwood Memorial Hospital and Humboldt Medical Group for all the loving care and kindness during this time.

Graveside Services will be held at Sunrise Cemetery in Fortuna, California, Monday, July 24, 2006, at 2:00 P.M.
