Donald Parker Obituary

DONALD "RAY" PARKER Donald "Ray" Parker died of natural causes. Ray was born on June 13, 1938 in Tuckasegee, North Carolina the oldest of three brothers. His family moved west to live in Sedro Wooley, Washington, Eureka, and Arcata, California where Ray attended high school, graduating in 1956. Ray married young and is the father of three children, Teresa Creech, Laura Costa, and Steve Parker. His young family would eventually settle in Humboldt County, first in Arcata and eventually in Eureka. Ray's early career took him through the electrical trades program. He started with Brizard Electric Construction as an apprentice working on the Humboldt County Courthouse. He worked on what were paydays back then, but are now historical sites such as the Titan/Minuteman Defense Missiles in Idaho, Arizona, South Dakota, and at Vandenberg Air Base on the VanGuard Missile. He also worked on the lower level lighting of the Bay Bridge. Ray founded Parker Electric in the early 70s. At one time he had locations in Eureka and in Redding. He would often be found piloting his own small airplane back and forth to job sites around northern California. Ray retired from Parker Electric in 2014. Ray was a "joiner". He loved being involved. Even in high school he joined a car club "The Redwood Kings". He was a 32 Degree Mason (Humboldt Lodge, 46 years), an Aahme Shriner (past president), and member of the Elks, Eagles, ECV, Moose, and Ingomar Club. He loved the brotherhood, the friendship and the good that the clubs did for the community. Ray never met a stranger. He has many friends in many places who will be miss him. Ray loved to fish and hunt. He went on many hunting trips that he couldn't wait to revisit, treasured the photos of, and tormented some of us with the tales of. He once spent the night on the ocean with a disabled boat while he and his dad drifted closer and closer to the rocks at Mendocino; and yet he still went out fishing. Ray loved motorcycles, old cars, and nice trucks. It seemed he was always trading something in for something new (or different). Ray also liked to examine any kind of new gadget. He was constantly finding some new and improved whatchamacallit to show people. He loved to figure out how they worked. Ray is certainly having a reunion with family and friends he hasn't seen in a long time. He joins his mother and father, Mildred Ann Watson and Samuel Matthew Parker, as well as many close friends and extended family. He leaves his brothers: Wallace Parker and his wife Pat, James Parker and his wife Joan; his children: Teresa Creech, Laura Costa and her husband Rocci, Steven Parker and his wife Marian; his grandchildren: Dana Creech, Carli and her husband Jordan Zizza, Edrie Black, Mavis Costa-Osborn and her husband Lewis, Rocci Costa, Courtney McRae-Zannone, Christian Burum; his great-grandchildren: Carmen and Dean Zizza, Thalia Costa, and Giovanni Juliano. Donations managed by the Humboldt Area Foundation will be devoted to electrical repair for local senior citizens: Hafoundation.org/rayparker There will be a Masonic Service on April 9th at 2:00pm at the Humboldt Masonic Temple, 517 G Street, Eureka, CA. Ray Parker and I became friends in 1956 at Arcata High School, We attended Trinity Baptist Church in Arcata along with my parents and Ray's family. We remained friends and always had a lunch date on my visits to California. I visited Ray on his last day of life and I miss him terribly. Ray and my husband Carroll were also friends, Thank you for being our friend Donald Ray Parker. I'll never forget you. Love you, Donna Mudford Frizzell

My original entry was posted with a picture only by mistake. This is the "post". Ray and I enjoyed a lot of good times, parties and functions over the years. RAY'S LIFE was God's gift to many of us. There was a picture hanging on his Washington Street shop wall for many years of: Ray wearing a very high quality, authentic looking King Kong gorilla suit... nothing less than convincing evidence that Ray was an intimidating escapee from the zoo. I was the victim wearing a 3 piece suit sitting on his lap in the foto. We had a lot of fun.

Donald Ray Parker, a very special friend of mine and Carroll's and our family. I saw Ray last on February 24th. I stood in the doorway to his room, told him that I came to say "good by", that my visit to Arcata\Eureka had ended. I blew him a kiss, said I love you and good by. He smiled and said ill see you next time. What a wonderful friend he was.

Sorry to hear of Ray's passing. I had my first job with Parker Electric way back in the day. Ray was a caring and fun person and the plane ride to Redding with his brother and the dog scared the heck out of me. He was a good boss. My prayers and thoughts to his family. On to bigger and better things Ray.

So very sorry to hear Ray has left us. Doug remembers his first day in the electrical trade as an Apprentice working for Ray on the Mad River wells for Steek Electric. Later Doug had the pleasure of working for Ray at Parker Electric for about 11 years. I enjoyed the Christmas parties and fun talks with Ray in the office. Doug and I were so surprised when he asked to befriend us on Facebook in 2014 after not seeing him in about 20 years or so. We met him and Diana for lunch in Weaverville and really enjoyed our time spent with Ray. He is gone but will never be forgotten.

I wish there was a "like" button on here! Cheryl, Jewel, Ron, I know Dad talked about you all often, Wayne and Barbe, I don't know you yet, but maybe we will meet in April?

We all will miss Dad. He was indeed a rare soul, we all carry many tales that he played a part in. Some of us more than others.

How does one say sorry to the family of such a great man? Thank you for sharing him with me. Ray and I met in Church 48 yrs ago we both sang in the choir.. we were young families then spending every Sunday night at their house watching star trek drinking coca-cola and he would bbq his favorite oscar mayer hot dog of some sort.We hunted a lot I never saw him miss a deer one time he said let me use your shoulder for a rest bang he shot the deer I could not hear for a week To day I wear hearing aids I wonder why, Fishing hour upon hours no one could fish like Ray we would take a 14 ft aluminum boat out so far we could not see land we had a spare told me later it did not run fog would come in no compass no worry Ray knew by the roll of the ocean we always made it in.The nite he spent on the ocean brand new boat dead battery. The hard times and there many Ray and I would sit and talk Ray was there and me for him.I could write a book as most of us can It would be very big and to many pages and at my age to heavy to carry around. A piece of me Is gone with him but I will catch up with him at a later date

I met Ray in 2008 when I moved back to Eureka. We were members of the Eagles and Moose.
Ray, Gordy Kuhnle and I were called the Three Musketiers.
When leaving the Eagles and Moose, Ray always made it a point to say goodbye to all that were present. He was that kind of guy.
Ray will be missed by many..........Jewel Hendricks

My deepest Sympathy and my prayers Go out to All of Ray's family. He will be missed by so many. I always loved his upbeat smile and outgoing personality and the way he cared for everyone in his life. Ray was like a second father to me. My best memory I shared with Ray is when he walked me down the aisle on my wedding day. A day I will never forget. My last memory with Ray was The day after Valentines Day. My mother wanted me to deliver some chocolates and a card to Ray. My husband and I visited with Ray. He was all smiles with lots of warm hugs, we talked and laughed and even shared a chocolate together. Those little moments I will always treasure. R.I.P Ray you will be missed. So sorry for your loss.

Rays voice will be missed the most along with his ability to solve a problem if you asked for help. Wishing you happiness in your new journey.

My condolences to the family. Ray was such an enjoyable person to know over the years. I sat on his lap in the 1980's gorilla foto.
