FRANCIS CARROLL COOK Francis Carroll Cook passed away on September 28, 2016 at Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna California at the age of 92. Francis was born on June 29, 1924 in Eureka, California to George and Margaret O'Leary Cook of Petrolia, California. Francis was raised on ranches with his brothers Joe Cook and Jim Cook. When World War II broke out he was attending Eureka High School with his brother Jim and boarding with the Moore family on J Street. After graduation he was attending Humboldt State and transfrred to University of the Pacific. While there he transferred into the Navy V-12 College Training Program. This program was to turn out officers for the war because West Point was not producing enough. Francis then went on to Midshipmen School in Chicago and attended classes at Northwestern along with the required naval classes. He shipped out to the Pacific Theatre going to Hawaii and then to Okinawa. After the war ended Francis returned to the ranch in Petrolia and continued ranching alongside his brothers until 1970, In 1970 he sold his two ranches and moved to Petaluma, California. He worked as the State Brand Inspector for ten years and then worked for the Petaluma Auction Yard until his retirement. After retirement Francis sold his house in Petaluma and relocated to Rio Dell, California. Francis was predeceased by his wife Virginia Coeur Cook, brother Joe (Faye) Cook, brother Jim (Loie Jean) Cook, brother-in-law Gerald (Dorothy) Coeur, daughter-in-law Janice Cook, nieces Connie Coeur and Margaret Cook Vevoda, and his parents George Walker Cook and Margaret O'Leary Cook. He is survived by children Tim (Kathy) Cook, Terry Cook, Moe Cook Ammenwerth (Ken), Tom (Jayne) Cook, Tianne (Patrick Phillips) Cook; aunts Margo Wells Cook and Georgann Ann Coeur; grandchildren Meghan Cook, Crystal (Matt Sheets) Cook, Chad Cook, Chase Cook; great granddaughter Ellise Cook Sutherland; nieces and nephews Ann Cook, Jane Cook Slinger, Mary Jo (Marty) Cook Frome, Carol Cook (Carl) Sgarlata, Joe (Cindy) Cook, George (Pam) Cook, Lou (Debbie) Cook, Annette (Gene) Holt, Jeff (Ann) Coeur, Marcia Coeur Jaramillo, and Fran (Joann) Cook; great nieces Beckah Jaramillo Loudermilk, and Chris and Tracy Bell. There will be a service for Francis on October 15th at 1:00 PM in the chapel at Sunset Memorial Park in Eureka followed by a Celebration of Life in Ferndale at the Ferndale Veterans Building, 1100 Main Street.
