Hazel Griffis Obituary

Hazel B. Griffis

On September 4, 2004, Hazel B. Griffis joined her husband of 66 years, in heaven with the loving support of her family. Mrs. Griffis was one of eight children of Horace Ayers Blair and Tommie Lou Dyer Blair.

She is survived by her children, Larry Gene Griffis, and his wife Glenda, of Rome, Georgia, Linda Louise Bass and her husband, Troy Carrollton, of Georgia and Barbara Rudene, of Eureka. Seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, and has touched the hearts of numerous generations of nieces and nephews. She was a mother to many.

She is also survived by her sisters, Sara Sue Brasher, of McKinleyville, Melba Jean Hay, of Fieldbrook and Gladys Blair, of McKinleyville.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Foster Grant Blair, John Charles Blair, and Claude Bart Blair and two sisters; Sara Nell Blair, and Hilda Anne Bass. Hazel was a pillar for her family, and received strength from her God. She was an active founding member of the Wesleyan Church of the Redwoods, in McKinleyville.

Visitations were held Monday, September 7, from 2-4 PM and also 7-8:30 PM, at Paul’s Chapel, 1070 “H” Street in Arcata. A celebration of Hazel’s life was held Tuesday, September 7, 2004, at 1 PM at Wesleyan Church of the Redwoods, 1645 Fischer Avenue in McKinleyville, with Pastor Chuck Clark officiated.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wesleyan Benevelance Fund, or Hospice of Humboldt, 2010 Myrtle Avenue, in Eureka.

Arrangements were under the direction of Paul’s Chapel, in Arcata.
