Jerry passed away November 28, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital with her family by her side. She fought a long battle with arthritis and diabetes but maintained a positive outlook on life. She never complained and would never concede to her illnesses.
She was born in Oakland, California on January 18, 1945, but lived most of her life in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School. She worked for 20 plus years for California Department of Transportation and was truly cared for by those she worked with and her friends were extremely good to her, particularly Leotta Lovelace and Judi Irwin. Jerry was a long time member of Eureka Nazarene Church and her church family meant everything to her. She loved camping at Benbow, sitting in the sun for hours, and playing cards with her Ferndale friends.
She is survived by her daughter Allison Sousa of Eureka, her son Paul Sousa and his wife Mynde and their children Steven and Ashley of Napa; sister Arlene Frost of Alaska, her twin, Judi Kinnear of Virginia, Mary Moore and her husband Del of Eureka, and brother Frank Vulich and his wife Cathy; nieces Nikki Lewis of Alaska, Jessica and Lindsey Vulich of Eureka, and nephews Scott Frost from Idaho, Rick Kinnear of Washington, Rob Kinnear of Florida, Ryan Kinnear of Virginia, and Nick Vulich of Eureka; and numerous family in Bakersfield and the Bay Area.
Jerry was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Elva Vulich of Eureka.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at St. Joseph Hospital. The nurses were all so wonderful and kind. We would also alike to thank her doctors, Dr. Michael Dietz and Dr. Beth Ables. Our family feels they have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
We will be celebrating Jerry’s life on Tuesday, December 2, at 11:00 AM at the Eureka church of the Nazarene. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
For those who love flowers, donations of Poinsettias can be made to The Eureka Nazarene Church, or donations may be made to Easter Seals, PO Box 109, Eureka, CA 95502.
”I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day.” (II Timothy 4 4:7-8)

I went to Jefferson grade school and Eureka High with Jerry and Judy. I was very shy so I wasn't good friends with them. I did not know they were twins. I don't even remember them in High School because I was so shy.

Paul,
Jerry was like a second mom to me when we were growing up on 'E' Street. Summers at Benbow are great memories. Your mom always had a positive outlook on life, and she'll be dearly missed.

Allison, Paul, Mary and all of Jerry's family and friends, Please know how much you are being though of and know also that our prayers are with you. This is so hard to write. I wrote and it didn't seem to get posted so I am writing again. Please forgive me if you get a double. It's just double love. Our family has just been remembering the dune buggy Sundays and the trips to Oregon, the camping with all the kids at Benbow during the summer, all the card parties and late night Pedro games, laughter and just good fun. I was fortunate to have seen Jerry a few times before we moved. This makes us so aware of how important it is to make time for our friends. We'll truly miss her. Hope to see you when we get to Eureka next time. Until then, we send all our love and prayers. Norma, Rod and Family

Dear Frank, Arlene and Judi: I'm so sorry to hear about Jerry. We were out of town for the holiday and missed the service. I don't know where to start I have so many memories of all of you - WHAT a fun bunch! Guess they start with those camping days - sitting alongside the road in Myers Flat and making up our own words to the drive-in movie (rather than paying the money to get inside). In PE class we were in the same small group for "modern dance" (of all things!) and had to perform our "original" number for the class - what a hoot!! - how hard can girls laugh at themselves??? Her courage and outlook after losing her foot just overwhelmed me. May her spirit & sense of fun live on..Much love to you all, Dottie (& Ron) Nelson

Allison and Paul,
We are sorry for the sorrow and grief you must be feeling now. You had a wonderful mother, and it was my joy to know her and to know you, her wonderful children. Thankfully, she is no longer suffering and is at Home.
But, you are still hurting and our prayer is for you to be comforted by the love of friends, family, and especially by the love of Jesus.
Much love,
Jim and Sue (Johnson) Crow

I havent seen Jerry since I was a child growing up but I have never forgotten her. One of my fondest memories growing up is thinking back on Dune Buggy Riding with Jerry and her family & friends. I loved her laugh and the way she made others laugh. To know Jerry is to never forget her. THANK YOU for the wonderful memories.

Jerry was a real inspiration. She always had a smile and a wonderful attitude. She was always joking, giving, ready to go places and see things. She gave great lunches with the help of her daughter Allison. I don't know how she did it. She will be missed.

To Jerry's Family:
My prayers are with you at this sad time in your life. I worked with Jerry over the last 5 plus years and came to value her friendship. I helped her as much I could with the little things she couldn't do and did so with pleasure. Work won't be the same when I go back on December 8.
I am in Texas visiting my son and his family for the Thanksgiving holiday therefor can't be at the Celebration of her Life today. I know that her CalTrans Right of Way family will be there and I will be there in spirit.
