John Dunlap Obituary

Born on December 4, 1937. Died on December 25, 2010. Half brother of Calvin E. Whittington and Dorothy Rabel. Brother of Donald Dunlap, Arnold Dunlap, and Arletta O'Dell. Father Arlet C. Dunlap, Mother Katherine M. Riedel Dunlap, Grandfather William P. Dunlap, Grandmother Ada Younce Dunlap, Great Grandfather Benjamin Dunlap, and Great Grandmother Lucinda E. Womack Dunlap. Another fourth generation Siskiyou County pioneer has gone to be with the Lord. John was born in Yreka, Calif. The first child of Arlet and Katherine Dunlap. The Great Grandson of Benjamin Franklin Dunlap who came to Calif. In a covered wagon. They stopped in Utah for a year where Mary A. Dunlap was born. They settled in Big Springs, Siskiyou County, Calif., on August 31, 1870. They homesteaded in about 1892 where Lucinda Dunlap lived until her death in January 1922. John married Carole M. Grant in Eureka, Calif. on December 13, 1959. They had one son Darron D. Dunlap who passed away November 24, 2008, at the age of 47. John drove logging truck for years in Humboldt county. He worked for Pacific Lumber Co. for a number of years until his retirement. John loved to hunt and fish. He hunted Northern Calif. from the time he was old enough to go out with his dad, Arlet. After retirement John would take his trailer out and camp the entire deer season. At times there would be 20 or more people in the camp. John will be missed by all that knew him and especially by his hunting friends. John leaves behind his wife, Carole. Of 51 years, Daughter-in-law Sherry Dunlap, Granddaughter Ginger Fenton, and Great Grandchildren Joshua and Kaylee. He also leaves behind many other relatives and friends. John, Floyd and I will miss you greatly. But we do have so many fond memories of our Birthday sharing Casino hopping days, from Brookings to Hopland what great times. Some just day trips and some overnight one's.
