John (Lee) Murrell passed away on January 14, 2004, at the age of 92. Lee was born on April 9, 1911, in Dry Prong, Louisiana.
Lee is survived by his children, Edyth (Dru) Johnson, Juanita and Jim Tolley, LeRoy and Sandy Murrell, Ellen and Johnny Esskew, Rosa and Larry Letson; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, M. Lorraine Murrell; his daughter, Judy Sullivan; and his granddaughter, Renda Gossett.
Lee came to California in 1947 and started working for Hammond Lumber Company as a pipe fitter and retired from Louisiana Pacific.
Dad loved gardening and was still doing some just over a year ago. He was known for his yard full of beautiful flowers. He won many ribbons at the Humboldt County Fair for his dahlias and you were sure to see a few onions and potatoes growing amongst the dahlias and roses.
Dad was an avid domino player and taught his grandsons how to count at a young age by playing dominos with them.
Casket bearers will be Brian and Ken Murrell, Todd Sullivan, Jacob Letson, Wayne Tolley and Steve Johnson.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 18, 2004, from noon to 5:00 P.M. at Sanders Funeral Home, 1835 E St., Eureka.
Services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2004, at 10:00 A.M. at Sanders Funeral Home. Pastor Clyde Belcher will officiate. Interment will follow at Ocean View Cemetery in Eureka.
