June Mathison Obituary

June Gladys Mathison June Gladys Trumbull, Stansberry, Chambers, Mathison entered into eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 3, 2014. She was a woman of extraordinary kindness and quiet courage. Born to Percy and Gladys Trumbull on June 12, 1919 in Fortuna, she grew up a true country girl, swimming in the river and playing on the railroad tracks near Bell Springs. She served in London as a nurse in the Army Nursing Corps during World War II. After the war she married her high school sweetheart, Arthur Lee "Bud" Stansberry, and settled at the Kuntz Ranch, east of Garberville. They went on to have three daughters, Linda, Susan and Betty. They shared a life of great love and companionship, ranching, hunting, laughing and raising their children together for 17 years. After losing Bud to an accident in 1963, she went on to raise her girls alone in Garberville while also boarding girls from the Blocksburg-Zenia area during the school year. She married Johnnie Chambers in 1967. They spent 22 years ranching in Petrolia, before Johnnie passed away in 1989. As a life long nurse, she was a steadfast caregiver to Johnnie in his later years, as well as many other friends and neighbors in the Mattole community. In 1991 she married again, to Edwin Mathison. They had two happy years together before he passed away in 1993. She lived for 38 years at the Chambers Ranch on North Fork Road in Petrolia. An avid gardener, her neighbors and friends remember her kind words and generosity as well as her famous raspberry patch. She always had the most beautiful flowers, the most welcoming home and the sweetest smile. June was preceded in death by her parents Percy and Gladys Trumbull, her brothers Larry Trumbull and Roger Trumbull, her husbands, Bud, Johnnie and Ed, her stepson Kyp Chambers and, most recently, her daughter Linda Hartman who passed away in March 2013. June is survived by her daughters Susan (Loren) Pancoast of Garberville and Betty (Melvin) Brim of Fortuna, her grandchildren, Christina (Chris) Ghidinelli of Eureka, Douglas (Holly) Brim of Pismo Beach, Daniel (Cheryl) Vettter of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Tracy (Roger) Smith of Eugene, Oregon, Stacey Mayhew of Garberville, Cj (Connie) Mayhew of Miranda, James Hartman of Eureka, Sandra Hartman of Redway, Jennifer (Shawn) Stankowitz of Trapper Creek, her brother-in-law Robert (Valerie) Stansberry of Honeydew, sisters-in-law, Emily Trumbull of Salem, Or. and Lois Trumbull of Fortuna, step children Lynn Chambers, Jim Mathison, Barbara Fox, step daughter-in-law, Shari Chambers, numerous step grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, fellow veterans and friends. June is also survived by her college roomate, fellow Army Nurse, and best friend of over 70 years, Miriam (Cookie) Laycook. Pallbearers are Daniel Vetter, Stacey Mayhew, Cj Mayhew, Douglas Brim, Jess Stansberry, Andy Stansberry & honorary Pallbearer, James Hartman. June will be sharing her eternal rest with her first love, her husband Bud. After 50 years they are together again. The family would like to thank Hospice of Humboldt, Especially You Assisted Living LLC, Senior Resource Adult Day Health Care and the Veteran's Administration, all of whom provided excellent care and services. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Those who remember and love her are welcome to celebrate her life alongside her family on April 9, 2014. Graveside services will be held at Bull Creek Pioneer Cemetery at 11 am followed by a memorial service and reception at the New Hope Assembly of God Church in Garberville at 2pm. June will be buried with full military honors. Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com and click on obituaries.
