To the Lucas Family:
It was a pleasure knowing Michael and Candy these past few years. As a bowler for the past 30 years, I always admired him for participating in the Annual Bowl for Kids Sake fund raisers as a member of a team sponsored by Caltrans. My hat's off to him!

I was deeply saddened to hear of Michael's passing and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Michael was a friend of mine here at Caltrans where we both worked and enjoyed some special moments together. For many years, Michael treated us to his delicious, but spicy, hot chili during the holiday potluck. His sense of adventure and good humor will be missed, but not forgotten.

To the Family of Mike Lucas

I am very sorry for your loss, Mike was a special man and well liked by all that knew him at Caltrans. I'll remember him for his sense humor, playing softball, his dog "Candi" and the "hottest" chili I ever tried to eat. May he rest in peace.

My sympathies to to the Lucas Family. Mike was always enjoyable to be around with his positive attitude, great laugh and willingness to do interesting things in his life. About four years ago I mentioned something about an upcoming black powder cannon shoot at the Simpson Rifle Range. He expressed a lot of interest in the cannon shoot (like he did with most things in his life) so Mike Yancheff and I took him and Candy out to the cannon shoot. We all had a great time, especially Mike as he visited with people, and enjoyed the smells, sounds and vibrations of the cannons firing. It was a life lesson for many of us to see MIke out there enjoying the cannon shoot with lots of talking and laughing, yet not being able to "see" any of the details of the shoot---it was truly a great day for all of us. Thank you Mike for being a friend and mentor.

Michael was an inspiration to me. He freely shared his wisdom, and often counseled his friends on the subject of conflict resolution, a complex matter for anyone. He found humor in so many things, and I loved to hear his laughter. I feel fortunate in having known him, if only for a few years.

To the Lucas family,

I had the please to work with Michael for a brief time on planning projects and great talks in the cafeteria and on walks at Caltrans District 1. His humor, wit, and optimism will never be replaced. All who knew him will do well to follow his sage advice and carry on their lives in a thoughtful and giving manner as Michael would expect of us.

My sincere condolences to Michael's family.

I feel blessed and honored to have Michael as one of my best friends -- a true friend of heart; "amigos de la corazon", as he used to say. Michael was a man of honor and truth. He had a very positive outlook on life and was an incredible role model. He liked to "push the envelope" and challenge himself. Michael had an amazing capacity to forgive and offer unconditional love. While I miss him very much, I will always carry with me the many life lessons that Michael taught me.

God bless you, Michael. May you rest in peace eternally.

Although I only got to know Michael for a short time, I [and your Caltrans family] will miss his positive attitude toward life. He brought a smile to my face with his words of encouragement and the warmth he exuded will always hold a special place in my heart. Michael, my friend, wish you well on your journey. I know you and Gloria are together again. I keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. With the deepest sympathy,

Michael and his seeing-eye dog, Candy

Although, I only knew Michael Lucas as a true friend for about a year, I will always cherish that time that he was my friend, confidant, fellow prayer warrior, and co-worker. Michael truly was a man of the Faith and of the Word. Many who knew Michael well were touched by his caring heart and the witness of his steadfast walk with God. Even while going through two of his life’s greatest trials, his wife's battle against cancer and then his own, Michael remained true to his Faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He pressed on to finish the race that was before him. To the many he shared his Faith with and loved and befriended, he will be remembered as a great man. I truly will miss Michael, but know that he is in the better place--the Eternal presence with God.

1 Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.
--Psalm 1:1-3
(NIV)

The fruit of Michael’s love and faith will long remain in the memory and lives of those he touched. I thank God for having my life touched by him and for having the privilege of knowing Michael Lucas as my friend.

Loving condolences to Michael's family. I've worked with Michael (and Candy) from time to time since 1995. He was one of my favorite people to work with. Michael's a gem. Sharp, bright and funny to top it off. I'm going to miss Michael's laugh most of all. I pray that God's peace will comfort your hearts.

To the Lucas Family,

It has been my sincere pleasure to have met you all during the time Michael was in Sacramento. He is truly a remarkable person overcoming all of life's challenges. It is people like Michael who inspires me to look at the world in a positive way and to be the best that I can be no matter what obstacles are thrown my way. I will never forget him and I know that he is at peace because he joins his wife and dad.
