Michael Anthony Saavedra

Michael Anthony Saavedra was born in Downey, CA. on October 27, 1970 and tragically died Monday, January 21, 2013. Michael is survived by his sister, Michelle Carlini and her husband Bruno; Nephew Angelo Carlini; Niece Valentina Carlini; Aunt Christine Saavedra; Cousins Gina Porras and Robert Maae; Grandfather Paul Saavedra. He was preceded in death by his wife Brenda; Mother Anna Marie Saavedra and his maternal Grandmother Helen Saavedra. Michael attended UCLA all the while living homeless. During this time he achieved straight A's. He was attending College of the Redwoods at the time of his death. Michael served in the Navy from 1996 to 1999. He was very proud of his service and volunteered in the Mad River Honor Guard at funerals for other Veterans. He would often wear his uniform even when not volunteering and would saunter about and profile showing his pride. Michael enjoyed music and was invited to sing the National Anthem at the 2012 Stand Down Event. Michael will be cremated and his remains will be interred with his wife Brenda at the Igo State Veterans Cemetery, Redding, CA. His remains will be escorted by the AMVETS Riders , Humboldt Chapter 96 in the Spring. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Veterans Memorial Building in Arcata, CA , 1425 J Street, February 23, 2013 at 1300 hrs.
