Nelda Anderson Obituary

Nelda Jane Anderson Nelda passed away March 5, 2010 peacefully after a brief illness just two days shy of her 89th birthday. Nelda touched so many lives, with her kindness and love of life and all things living. She taught her family that life is such a precious gift that each day should be lived to the fullest and even if it meant stopping to smell the first Spring bloom or to watch the clouds form in the sky. She had a love of beautiful music and even a Saturday night boxing match with the boys. There was nothing pretentious about our grandmother, a clean sweatshirt and jeans was dressing up because simple was the best. But the love of her family and family gatherings were her riches. She never judged or took anything for granted. She always gave from her heart. Her love of animals was always abundantly clear from a very small girl. In later years, she bred and showed horses, raised Dobermans and adopted rescued Greyhounds. She was preceded in death by her husband John F. Anderson and her parents John R. and Nellie Pederson. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law Richard Anderson of Eureka, Erick Anderson of Fortuna and Yvonne "Cookie" Anderson of Orangevale; her grandchildren Teri and Chris Levitt, Richard M. Anderson, all of Eureka, Kelly Chalmers of Pullman, WA, Erica and Ron Adams and Michelle Anderson all of Chico; Great Grandchildren Hayley, Marissa, Tanner Levitt and Shawn DeVore, Dylan, Brittney-Lea and Justin Anderson all of Eureka, Courtney, Sierra, Mackenzie, Jade and Cassidy Chalmers of Pullman, WA, Janelle, Megan and Tyler Black of Chico and Great-Great grandson Garrett Levitt. The family would like to thank her new family and friends at Exclusively Sequoia Care for providing the love and care during her last year of life, you will always be forever in our hearts and to Hospice of Humboldt for providing the care and dignity in her last week. At the request of Nelda no services will be held. Friends and relatives are invited to the Celebration of Life which will be held April 10, 2010 at the Eureka Elks Lodge on Herrick Ave. from 11AM to 1PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Humboldt. Arrangements are under the care of Pierce Mortuary, Eureka, CA. Not sure what to say?

To Richard and Erick. You have my condolences on the loss of your Mother Nelda. What a great strong willed person she was and a perfect foil for your Dad John. I would laugh when I would see her with a couple of bales of hay in the hugh Chevrolet station wagon she drove and we used to say that Nelda only owned one sweatshirt and she must wear it to bed at night. You are fortunate to have a real mother like her and I never drive by the park on Herrick without thinking of her, John and both of you and Cookie too.

Thanks for the memories

Dear Anderson Family

I only knew Nelda when she came to Exclusively Sequoia but I came to like her. She sat next to my dad at dinner
and would tell him to be quiet when he yelled. She was a real spunky lady. I am sure she will be missed by all that knew her.

To the whole family of Ms Nelda... How lucky you all are to have been blessed with such an amazing woman in your life. I only had the opportunity to know Nelda for a few short months before her passing, but I am so grateful for that time that I did have with her. I have so many fond memories of her. What an amazing woman she was! She will be missed deeply by all. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. My Love, Shawnna

Nelda Anderson was my forever best friend and my former mother-in-law. I first met her when I was 17 and she was 47 - we had many years of deep, great friendship, shared a passionate love of horses and dogs. I will never forget the horse shows where she was so nervous, she could not bear to watch the outcome, and we usually won! She loved the halter horses and loved to watch Cheryl ride and win. We could sit for hours and talk about horses and bloodlines, until someone would tell us to be quiet! She enriched my life with love and kindness, along with great understanding. She loved her family above all else and was proud of each one of them. I will miss her very much as she will always be my mom in my heart. Much love, Mary

Gram, you have no idea how many changes you made in my life.. You taught me to be strong and to never give up.. Seeing you everyday before the day you left our lives really taught me how strong we all needed to be. I know for a fact that you wouldn't want us all to mope around, you would want us to celebrate the long life you lived. You and Papa will always no matter what be in my heart. I will love you both no matter what. Please look over us no matter what time of day it is.. I will see you on the other side Gram and Papa.. You both have made a great impact in my life! Love you both very very much! P.S. Please never forget the times us three shared together! Much Love.. R.I.P.
