It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Douglas Gray-Scolari. Rich died peacefully in his sleep on November 8 at his home in Los Angeles.
Rich was born in 1964 in San Jose, but considered Humboldt County home. Rich often had a hard life, dealing with a birth defect in his legs that kept him going to Shriner’s Hospital throughout his youth. Yet Rich always had a kind nature and a loving heart. With his love of all music, in his early 20s, Rich and his brother Xeff started a D.J. company called Soundtrax, and together they provided entertainment all around the county.
In his adulthood, Rich moved to San Francisco, and then later to New York to work as a systems analyst for the Red Cross. He then moved back home to Eureka, where he met the love of his life, Kenneth Gray. Together they moved to Glendale, and Rich became very active in the theatrical arts at Glendale Community College, where Ken was teaching. At the time of his death, Rich had been assistant directing a production of West Side Story.
Rich was a very special person and will be deeply missed by all of us who had the gift of knowing him and loving him. If you knew him, you loved him. Everyone loved Rich.
Rich leaves behind his husband, Kenneth Gray-Scolari; his parents, Frank and Carol Scolari of Eureka; brother, Steve and sister-in-law Toni Scolari of Carlotta; sister, Linda and brother-in-law Cliff Powell of Eureka; brother, Xeff and sister-in-law Meri Scolari of Eureka; sister, Carolyn and brother in-law Brandon Barnhart of Eureka; Godmother, Grace Wilkinson of Eureka; and many loved nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
In celebration of Rich’s life, friends and family are invited to a memorial service Saturday, November 15th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Eureka.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The American Foundation for AIDS Research www.amfar.org or the charity of your choice.
