Violet Ingeborg (Johnson) Hansen left this Earth to be with The Lord on December 20, 2003. Vi was born in Eureka, CA., on November 20, 1916, to Swedish immigrants, Axel and Anna Johnson.
Vi married Oden W. Hansen, of the Eureka-area pioneer Hansen and Nilsen families, on April 8, 1939, in Eureka. Vi and Oden had three children, Gerald Oden, Robert Neil, and Anna Nell.
Vi resided in Humboldt County for most of her life and was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Arcata and its related groups for women. She was also involved in the Swedish Runeberg Lodge of Eureka, the Camellia Chapter of Eastern Star, and the Chapter of White Shrine, the Order of Amaranth in Eureka. She was a life member of the G.E.S. Sewing Club of Eureka, along with her good friends, Elsie lsackson, Ellen Coppin, Janice Lasell, Helen Bare, Margaret Bean, and Elsie Johnson.
Violet was an endearing woman, a loving and caring wife, a compassionate, nurturing, and endlessly patient mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a deeply devoted child of God. Vi will be remembered most for her soft-spoken, gentile, and intrinsically kind, caring and selfless nature; her unending devotion to her family and friends; her limitless faith in God; her unconditional compassion for all of God’s creatures; and her heavenly kitchen creations. She was an outstanding homemaker and church worker.
Violet is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, Dr. Oden W. Hansen; son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Bob) and Arlene Hansen of Denver; daughter-in-law, Susan Hansen of Arcata; and daughter, Ann Hansen of Arcata. She is survived by grandchildren, Eric Sada and wife Liliann of Mexicali, Mexico; Marcela Sada-WedlI and husband Sam Wedll of Blue Lake; Lisa Hansen-Pereira and husband Matthew Pereira of Bayside; Marianna Sada of Davis; Aren Hansen of Berkeley; and Brandon Hansen and wife Kelly of Golden, CO; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Emilie Hansen of Golden, Anna Sophia Sada of Mexicali, Mexico; Hannah Pereira of Bayside; and Isabel Wedll of Blue Lake; sister-in-law, Audrey Johnson of Eureka, niece, Judy Martin and husband James of Eureka; and numerous relatives and friends.
Vi was preceded in death by her son, Gerald (Gerry) Hansen, her father and mother, Axel and Anna Johnson, and her brother, Henry (Hank) Johnson.
Services will be held on Friday, December 26, 2003, at 2:00 pm at the Lutheran Church of Arcata, located at 151 East “16” Street. A reception will follow at the church hall. Private interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to: the Lutheran Church of Arcata, 151 East “16” Street, Arcata, CA 95521, or Hospice of Humboldt, 2010 Myrtle Avenue, Eureka, CA 95501, or your favorite charity.
Arrangements are under the direction of Paul’s Chapel in Arcata.
