Paul Hutchings Obituary

CHATTANOOGA, TN - Paul "Hutch" Bryant Hutchings, 58, passed away March 23, 2015, at Memorial Hospital in Hixson, Tennessee, after a long battle with terminal illness.

Paul was born December 10, 1956, in Salem, Massachusetts, and grew up in Marblehead, Massachusetts, until he joined the Marine Corps on his 17th birthday.

Paul was predeceased by his parents, Glen and Amy Hutchings, and brother Peter Hutchings.

He is survived by his wife, Gylzan Hutchings, and young daughter Serena of Chattanooga, Tennessee, former wife and lifelong friend Debbi Hutchings-Papineau, of Williamstown, Vermont, and their daughters Amy (Stephen) McDonald, of Williamstown, Vermont, and Crystal (Shawn) Harvey, of Barre, Vermont, and beloved grandchildren Aurora and Elias Harvey; his brothers David and Steven (Kathleen) Hutchings, of Belfast Maine; nephews Mike Hutchings, of Lakewood, Florida, Mark Hutchings, of Amesbury, Massachusetts, Matthew Hutchings, of Epping, New Hampshire and Mo Darres, of Belfast, Maine; nieces Dawn Tietjien, of Jacksonville, Florida, and Armindy McFadden, of Frankfort Maine.

Paul had a long and varied career in law enforcement. In 1981 he was first appointed to the Montpelier Police Department; in 1988 he was appointed by Gov. Dean as Chief Deputy Sheriff of Washington County, Vermont, and in 1999 became Chief Inspector for the Vermont Secretary of State. In 2001 Paul served as a U.N. Police Advisor in Kosovo. After returning to the states he joined the Chattanooga, Tennessee, Sheriff's Department. Paul was an avid outdoorsman and was happiest when hunting the woods and water of Vermont and Maine with his hunting dogs, Gunner and Jack. For two summers Paul was able to fulfill his dream of being a lobster boat Captain in Belfast, Maine.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, April 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 244 Hersey Rd. Montpelier, VT 05602.
