Andrew Reavis Obituary

REAVIS, Andrew Lee, 20, of Tappahannock, died Monday, January 3, 2011. Born April 26, 1990 in Orange Park, Florida, he was a graduate of Aylett Country Day School, where he received the Headmaster Award. Andrew was a graduate of Essex High School, Class of 2008, where he led the wrestling team as captain for two years. He was currently a VMI Cadet 2nd Class (Junior) on a full USMC ROTC scholarship, a Cadre Corporal and a 2nd class RDC Representative. He served on a mission trip to Guatemala this past summer with Jacob's Ladder, and planned to make this organization a lifelong commitment. Andrew's experience as a counselor with Jacob's Ladder and his easy-going personality enabled him to enrich the lives of the many children he worked with. He is survived by his mother, Beth Arthur of Houston, Texas; his father, William D. Reavis of Tappahannock; two brothers, William D. Reavis Jr. and Kyle Wesley Reavis, both of Tappahannock; his girlfriend, Allyson McElroy of Richmond; his maternal grandparents, Lucy and Don Arthur; his paternal grandparents, Don and Barbara Reavis; his aunts and uncles, Ken and Lisa Arthur, Robert and Laura Arthur, Arlene and Cliff Spencer; and his cousins, Lauren and Carolyn Arthur, Matthew, Bradley and Andrew Arthur, Clayton and Cody Spencer. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Beale Memorial Baptist Church, Tappahannock. Pallbearers will be Will Reavis, Kyle Reavis, Trent Snody, Troy Warcewicz, Andrew Yancey and Mackie Wellford. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2011. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Marks-Bristow Funeral Home, Tappahannock. In lieu of flowers, it would be Andrew's wish that memorials be made to Jacob's Ladder, P.O. Box 555, Urbanna, Va. 23175.

Hey Bud,
We miss you in the room. Things just aren't the same. I've thought a lot about it and, as hard as it is to see any good come from this, I know there is some. You changed our lives for the better, and that is something that will never be taken away. Your legacy lives on through us, your friends, and your family. Love you man.

January 6, 2011

Dear Bill, Beth, Will and Kyle,

We were blessed to have Andrew in our home several times the last few years, as he and Michael were brother rats and good friends. Each of us has a special memory of Andrew, and he made a special impression on each one in our family. The toughest part of Michael's decision to leave VMI for the Naval Academy was missing the opportunity to be around such excellent young men as Andrew. You have done well in training him up and raising him right, and you deserve to be very proud of him. He was a fine young man, and he has left the world a wonderful testimony. Our family joins you in your sorrow, your pain, your pride, and your trust that God is good and knows what He is doing, and has the best plan.

With highest regard, Jim, Jan, Michael, Matthew and John Fiorelli

My son Sean is a second and was a roommate with Andrew during Rat year. Since they were both history majors their paths continued to intersect daily and Andrew's loss will be felt. Ms. Arthur, Mr. Reavis, Will, and Kyle -
I was an R.A. with Andrew at Jacob's Ladder for two summers, and knew him as an incredibly generous, funny, and loving young man. He touched the lives of so many of those children in an incredibly positive way, and the Jacob's Ladder family will forever miss his ever-present smile and laugh. I've attached my favorite picture of Andrew from J.L. - I think it describes better than words ever could how much we all loved him, and shows his energy and drive for life. He was a wonderful friend, and will be greatly missed.
My sincere condolences to your family.
