Antoon Arkesteyn Obituary

Antoon "Toney" Arkesteyn, 69, of Mechanicsville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 5, 2005. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Pat Arkesteyn; two sons and their spouses, Renton and Pam, and John and Lindsay Arkesteyn; one brother, John Arkesteyn and his wife, Ann; three grandchildren, Caleb, Warren and Kinsley Arkesteyn; one niece, Caron Arkesteyn; and one nephew, Joe Arkesteyn. Toney was retired from the Federal Reserve Bank after 39 years of service. He was a member and secretary of St. John's Catholic Church and a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. The family will receive friends at St. John's Catholic Church, 813 West Nine Mile Rd., on Tuesday, December 6 from 5 to 8 p.m., with a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John's Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 7 at 1 p.m., followed by interment at Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Catholic Church.

Hi Pat and family, Johnny and I just found out about Toney, we are so sorry for your loss and are praying for your comfort at this time. I always loved to see Toney when he came to the bank because he would always make me smile and Johnny loved to see him at church. We are so sorry that we did not know before today. I have just heard about Toney and Roger and I are so sorry for your loss. Toney was a wonderful person. We always had so much fun when we were all together at Karen's house. Dear Pat and family,

I feel great sadness at the loss of Toney. What a lovely man! Always with a smile on his face a laugh in his eye, and a hardy hand shake or caring hug. He could be all business or just plain fun. He was a wonderful soul and I know you will morn his passing forever. God must have needed another angel by his side for Christmas. We that only knew Toney as a friend, a worker and a ready volunteer, can only imagine the loss you feel.

God please, watch over you and help you heal from this sudden loss, and guide you through the times to come. Thank you too, for sharing Toney with us, as he was a special man and a true gentleman.

To the Arkesteyn family... I am truly saddened to hear of your loss. I pray that the sting of Toney's passing will lessen as you remember him and the wonderful husband .. father and friend he exemplified. I know this to be true after seeing what a fine lady he had for his bride and the caring sons I had the priviledge to teach. Whenever our paths crossed I was left with the feeling ... what a good person ! We are all challenged when a fine person leaves our midst ; to honor them by being the best person we can be ... My prayers are with Toney's family as I was graced to know him. I worked side by side with Toney at the Fed when he came back to help out with the annual United Way Campaign year after year. He always had fun and witty things to say, and would really make me laugh. I also love "Pat" who has the same fun and loving spirit. Toney had a huge heart, and would always volunteer to help out in so many ways. I remember seeing him at the heart walk when Pat and him volunteered to count money, he worked as secretary at his church, and I even remember him giving me words of comfort when I lost my grandfather in 2002. I know that Toney is missed, but I pray that God will comfort you as you reflect on the many joys and memories that you have with him. Reflect on the legacy that he has left you, and know that this is not the ending, but that he has entered into the beginning of forever, and that we will all join him and see him again at the appointed time...
