Teresinha,

Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of Ary. My collaborations with Ary, as well as the time we spent with you in Richmond, are among my fondest memories. Having lost Shannon recently, I have some insight into what you are facing, and my heart goes out to you. I know you have a strong family and that you and the kids will find a way to make it through this. The last time I saw Ary was at the 2004 SFN meeting. I was very impressed with him then, in that he seemed to have come to a serene acceptance of his health problems and faced them with an uncommon dignity. It is testament to the strength of his character that he maintained a fight against the health problems, at the same time he remained a great father and husband, and continued with his provocative research program. Again, please accept my condolences and we wish you strength in dealing with this horrible tragedy.
