Carole Crouch Obituary

Carole Crouch

November 12, 1934 - March 9, 2025

Carole R. Crouch, "Smokey", 90, of Mechanicsville, VA, "changed addresses" to his heavenly home as he rushed into the loving arms of his Jesus on March 9, 2025, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his loving and dedicated wife of 44 years, Millie Crouch. He is survived by his two adoring daughters, Lisa Crouch Minor (David) and Kim Crouch Brown; four grandchildren, Chris Minor (Nicole), Sloan Lambert (Kalub), Kayla Brown, and Wyatt Brown; his current wife, Sandra Jenkins Crouch; and brother, Raymond Crouch. Smokey was a four-sport letterman at Washington-Henry High School and a running back at Randolph-Macon College. He served in the United States Army for six years, completing 19 months of active-duty service in Étienne, France, before he was honorably discharged. He worked diligently at Virginia Power, where he retired after 31 years of service. He immersed himself in the community by coaching Hanover Youth girls' basketball, Mechanicsville Little League girls' softball, travel softball, and Lee-Davis girls' softball and basketball. He was a Freemason of the Washington & Henry Lodge No. 344 and a Hanover Ruritan Club member. Furthermore he was a member of the Shady Grove Chancel Choir for over 35 years and has now been a long-time member of Fairmount Christian Church for over 30 years, where he served as a deacon and sang in the Worship Choir. His family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Samuel Janney, Dr. Patel, Dr. Daniel Schneider, Drs. Tim and Pam Wratchford, and Legacy Hospice for providing compassionate medical care during Smokey's life.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Bennett Funeral Home in Mechanicsville, VA, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. His Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 1 p.m., at Fairmount Christian Church in Mechanicsville, VA. Donations can be made to the Onward Campaign at Fairmount Christian Church or the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.

I met "Smokey" through another great friend Carl Kaloski ( Bubba). We spent hours together in the great outdoors rabbit hunting having the time of our lives. Smokey is a man of outstanding character and solid moral fortitude. Proud to call him a great friend and hunting buddy. To his family, you all have wonderful memories I'm sure and rest easy...I'm confident the gates of Heaven are open wide to receive him home! God bless you all with this confidence as much as He blessed you all with Smokey's life. Sincerely, Tom Leary

Many decades ago, when I began work at "Vepco", I met Smokey and we both said at the same time, "Are we related?" To this day, he is the only other Crouch I ever met in person, & no, we weren't related but I adored him just as everyone else that ever met or worked with him. Outstanding gentleman of the highest caliber. To his wonderful soul I send the warmest thoughts and memories. He will always be remembered for his kindness, humor, and the genuine joy he shared with everyone. Peace be with you my fellow Crouch.

Carole Smokey Crouch was a great friend and a better person. We spent countless hours together enjoying our passion "hunting". So many memories. Everyone that knew Carole loved him and he will be missed by all. Rest in peace my friend Carl Kaloski.
