Catherine Lockard Hoke

1933 - 2023

HOKE, Catherine Lockard, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2023 after 89 wonderful years. Cathy was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Harry (Mickey) F. Hoke Jr. She is survived by her children, Harry (Chip) F. Hoke III (Kathy), James Michael Hoke (Mindy), Susan Hoke Gordon (John) and Catherine Elizabeth Lafiandra. She was the proud grandmother of Jimmy, Michael, Harry, Susan, Kristin, Callahan, Madeleine, Kate, Jack and Tommy; and great-grandchildren, Mira, James and Claire. Special thanks to Johnna Bailey who for a decade provided the healthcare, love and friendship that made Cathy's life with dementia so much better.

Cathy was the daughter of Dr. James N. and Gladys C. Lockard of Pascagoula, Mississippi. She was a 1955 graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College with a major in chemistry. She enjoyed golf, tennis, bridge, theater, cooking and most of all her family. Cathy loved the water. In 1970 she and Mickey bought a home in south Richmond on the James River where they raised their family with friends, parties, skiing, fishing, fun and most of all love. Until her return to Richmond in 2015 Cathy lived in Vero Beach, Florida, where she and Mickey had retired. We will always remember Mom's fearless and outgoing attitude towards life and her words to all of us, "I have had a wonderful life – I loved your Dad and all of you and I enjoyed every minute of my family. I would not change anything."

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., May 5, 2023 at Westminster Canterbury Richmond. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Westminster Canterbury Foundation or the Lewy Body Dementia Association lbda.org.
