Charles GAMBILL Jr.

GAMBILL, Charles J. Jr., Lt.Col. USMCR (Ret.), passed away August 10, 2011, at age 90. He was the widower of Marian Morris Gambill; and husband of Dorothy Ruth Gambill, whose love and devotion added many years to his life.The son of Charles J. Gambill and Eva Tappe Gambill, he graduated from John Marshall High School and Richmond College. He served as an artillery officer in the Sixth Marine Division in World War II, including the battle for Okinawa and service in China after VJ Day. He remained active with the Marine Corps Reserve in Richmond and with the Marine Corps League. He earned his CPA license in 1950, started his own firm in 1973, and was still licensed at the time of his passing. He served as a deacon, elder, and treasurer at Third Presbyterian Church, where he was a member for over 75 years. His sister, Mildred; and his brothers, Walter and Robert predeceased him. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Gambill Hennessey (Daniel); and sons, David (Janet), Michael (Karla), and Charles III; as well as five grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Visitation will be at the Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel, Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at Third Presbyterian Church on Monday at 2 p.m., followed by burial at Westhampton Memorial Park.
