Christopher Higgins Obituary
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Nancy Stein Higgins; his siblings, Douglas S. Higgins III, Margaret H. Clinard (Noel) and James H. Higgins (Tomoko); and his beloved nieces and nephews, Elizabeth C. Voulgarakis (Michael), Ned Clinard, Margaret Clinard, Kathryn C. Whitwell (Brad), Ben Higgins, Jack Higgins, Emily Higgins and Alec Higgins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Steele Higgins Jr. and Frances Sholes Higgins.
Chris touched many in his life and was loved and respected by all. His special gift was an open heart with room for anyone in need: friend, associate, casual acquaintance, or stranger on the street. He was an avid collector of art and loved attending galleries to support his artist friends. He excelled at many sports and physical challenges and running cross-country at VCU. He had a lifetime love of hiking and mountaineering - born from his experience at Sanborn Western Camps in the Rockies of Colorado, where he summited over a dozen "Fourteeners" - and skiing in Europe while studying at Catholic University in Leuven, Belgium and in the American West. He enjoyed listening to music, attending concerts, playing golf and watching sports. His varied interests were a source of myriad friendships. Adored by his family, he returned their love wholeheartedly.
He had a distinguished career as a Paralegal, Litigation Support Specialist and Manager, at the law firms of Hunton & Williams in Richmond, Virginia and Atlanta, Georgia and Paul, Hastings and DLA Piper in Atlanta, Georgia.
Family and friends will be received at A Celebration of Life to be held at Candela Gallery in Richmond, Virginia, on Saturday, May 14, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center of Houston, Texas, https://gifts.mdanderson.org or Hospice of the Piedmont, https://www.hopva.org.
