Col. James Larry Rank, (Ret. US ARMY)

Col. James Larry Rank, (Ret. US ARMY), 82, of Prince George, Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Born in Kansas City, Mo.,he was the son of the late Joseph H. Rank and Ruby McGaugh Rottman; and was also preceded in death by his sister, Carol Jo Hazlett. Mr. Rank faithfully served his country in the United States Army and retired after 27 years of dedicated service, having reached the rank of Colonel. Following his retirement from the Army, Mr. Rank went on to work for H&R Block as an office manager, tax preparer and instructor for 20 years. He was a man of deep faith and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights, Va., where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Rank graduated from St. Benedict's College in Atchinson, Kan., and then continued his education at Florida Institute of Technology, where he received two Master's degrees in both business and economics. He was an avid golfer, having played with the Colonial Heights Golf League and the Fort Lee Cardinals. Mr. Rank is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Beverly J. Rank; one daughter, Alison Gwinn and husband, Aaron; one granddaughter, Sadie Gwinn; his step-brother, Rich Scofield and wife, Deb; one brother-in-law, Thomas Hazlett; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 3110 Greenwood Ave., Colonial Heights, VA 23834 with the Rev. Dr. Joey Anthony, officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38101 in memory of James L. Rank. The family is being served by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
