Corey Mosley Obituary

Corey Anthony Mosley

November 19, 1988 - February 22, 2025

Corey Mosley, born on November 19, 1988, to David Warren Mosley and Trinisa Berry, beloved University of Virginia Football player, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, after a long battle with Lupus.

A lifelong Richmond native, Corey made friends easily and was loved and respected by all. He had many talents but football was his first love. He began playing on a little league football team when he was a young boy. By high school, he was well known for his football skills. Corey played for Henrico High School where he graduated in 2007. He was recruited by a number of colleges, but he chose to go to The University of Virginia. His football skills guaranteed that he would be noticed. He quickly made a name for himself.

Following graduation from UVA in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, Corey headed out to begin his career as a professional player. He had to return to Richmond where doctors diagnosed Lupus. In the last several months of his life, Corey worked for Christian and Barton Law Firm where he found his workplace home. One of his coworkers said of Corey, "He was a gentleman, courteous, intelligent and philosophical. He was a very good conversationalist and was loved by all." Coach Al Groh said this about Corey, "Players recognize and acknowledge talent. What players respect and relate to is character attribute and competitive spirit. Corey demonstrated those attributes to the highest level which is why he so loved and respected by his teammates."

On February 22, Corey entered eternal paradise. Corey is survived by his mother, Trinisa Berry; three siblings, Chaz, Aysha, and Joshua; stepbrothers, Melvin Moore, Darius Moore, Travon Berry; and his paternal grandmother, Quency Mosley. Corey is also survived by his Godparents Ward and Carolyn Mustian, dear friends John and MaryBeth Poma, and his Goddaughter Bree Brown. He is survived by uncle Mark Mosley (Charlette), uncle Edgar Rudy Mosley (Renee) and a host of other aunts, uncles and cousins as well as many devoted friends. Corey was preceded in death by his beloved father, David Warren Mosley; and his cherished uncle James Patrick Mosley who became his father figure after his dad died. Corey's grandparents, Mae and James W. Jones, and Dick Mosley; and stepdad Melvin Berry; proceeded him in death as did his uncle Jerry Scott; cousins, Antwan Jones and Shaquille Mosley.

A visitation will be held Friday, March 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Woody's Funeral Home. 1771 N. Parham Road, Henrico VA. 23229. Visitation will continue on Saturday morning, March 8, from 9:15 to 10 a.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church.
