Cory Smoot Obituary
Cory was truly unique. Those who personally knew Cory knew that he was genuine, humble, devoted, generous, tender hearted, loyal, fun spirited, ambitious, intelligent, courteous and polite. Cory's obvious gift in life was his talent to write, play and produce music, as he was a self-taught song-writer and musician. At the age of only 14, Cory formed his first label band and recorded his first CD, simply titled "Misguided". Cory later went on to produce other albums and form his own music studio, Karma Productions, and his own band, Mensrea. Several years ago Cory joined the Richmond-based band Gwar as lead guitarist, song writer and music producer. He instinctively knew music and it was obvious to anybody fortunate to witness him play that only his soul could produce the music that his body delivered. Cory touched lives and inspired many throughout the world, both personally and professionally. Cory's identity was not that of "Flattus Maximus," his character created by Gwar. In fact, Cory was a true legend who was taken too soon from his calling as a son, brother, husband, father and musician. He will always be remembered by those who truly loved him and knew who he really was. He will never be forgotten. Cory's legacy will continue through his only child, who is expected in June 2012. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers or gifts, that donations be made to the Cory Smoot Family Fund to benefit Jaime and Cory's unborn child, "Lil Smooty." The address is smootfamily fund@gmailcom. Memorial service will be held 4 p.m., Friday, November 11, 2011. at the Chesterfield Chapel of Bennett Funeral 14301 Ashbrook Parkway.

RIP Cory. Thanks for all of the great memories. There was never a dull moment with Cory. Whether it was practicing in the shed in Deer Run (or my parents garage)or playing shows in the parking lot behind Jukebox, we always had a great time. I also remember how awesome it was when Ken paid for us to record our first demo at In Your Ear studios. Everyone was so supportive.

Jamie I am in shock and so so sorry for your loss. I never met Cory but he sounded like a cool guy and a wonderful husband from the stories you told. I know there are no words that can ease your pain or shock, but I know that it does help knowing others care and acknoeledge your pain. You will be in my thoughts and prayers daily. Cory would literally have me rolling on the floor laughing most of the time when we were good friends many years ago. We lost touch, but I still smile when I think back on those days. My sincere condolences to the family, but know that he touched many lives & his memory will live on through his music & "Lil Smooty".

When Cory carried that big guitar all around at 4 yrs old I knew he had a passion for music. I am at a loss for words. I didn't know you on a personal level, but I do know all to well the emptiness that comes with a premature departure.
I find myself feeling for someone I have never met. Because when you're a GWAR fan, it truly is like being in a family of sort. The family has lost a brother.
I lost my sister who was just about to turn 32, back on Feb 16th. She too passed in her sleep with no obvious cause. It was less than 2 days after she had thanked me via text,for a present my wife and I gave my mom to give her.
What I'm getting at.. I saw Cory just two days before he died as well, Tuesday night.
Its a very strange feeling, when people you love, look up to, associate with etc.. prematurely pass.
Its an eerie and blatant reminder of our own mortality.
I wish your friends and family nothing but the best, and hope that they can cope and heal through the utterly endless and painful process of grieving, and believe me when I say I know how they are feeling right now.
