Dear Mrs. Rollins & the Rollins Family,

You have my deepest sympathy in your time of sorrow.

I joined 31st Street Baptist Church in 2005, after visiting since 2003 and have continued to enjoy receiving the word as given by my late Pastor, Rev. Darrel Rollins.

I hold John 14:6 close to my heart and I recall my Pastor saying the scripture Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."

Hello Mrs.Rollins and Doug,I want to thank you both for allowing Rev.Rollins to spend so much time with me to make sure things were right.1979-1980 was a very trying time for me and my Family. He made sure I was safe and free.I still remember as a little boy how he made me feel even when things seemed dem.I remember his calls to me in the evenings, and him taking me to school some morning to make sure no one would get out of line; at 15 years old it meant a lot. There were many many years that were kept in touch.Mrs.Rollins thanks for listening to my calls also.Doug thanks for being the other brother.Although my father was present Rev.Rollins filled in when he had to work.I will miss him.God BLESS you both.If you should ever need anything do not hesatate to call. To Mrs. Rollins and Family:
Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can not heal. When a soldier has gone home to be with the Lord, it leaves a space in our lives and in our hearts to know to keep on toiling, keep on working in the vineyard, for we too will one day have to stick our swords in the sand of time to study war no more. Be comforted in knowing that when the trumpet sounds on that great getting up morning, we will tell this world farewell; farewell to sickness and suffering, farewell to sorrow and pain. We will meet in the New Jerusalem, where the streets are paved with gold, no more good byes but howdy-howdy all the time. There we will sing with the host of angels and the very Elect, "Thank You Jesus, I made it over! Keep your faith strong in the Lord and He will see you through this. Be Blessed as you have been a blessing!

Dear Sandra:
My heart is so heavy having learned of Revered Rollins' passing. Days have passed and I still find it hard to believe and accept. I have known both of you since I moved to Richmond 21 years ago and I have many fond memories from my days as an active member of 31st Street. I will hold dear the memory of Reverend Rollins' smile, his warm and affectionate disposition and his meaningful sermons. As I struggled to find my place in a new city I found 31st Street a source of strength and comfort and place where I made friendships with persons that continue today.

Having worked with you through the Board for the South Richmond Adult Day Care Center I know you to be a strong woman, firmly grounded in your faith. While I know you have suffered a great loss I know also that your abiding faith with serve to support you and bring you strength as you move through the coming days ahead.

Please know that I am praying for you, Douglas and all the members of your extended family with all the love I have to offer! Please feel free to call me if there's ANYTHING that you need.

To our First Lady, Mrs. Rollins, and to my church family, words cannot express how I felt when I received a call at work that my pastor had passed. Having married my husband and I over 23 years ago and baptized several of my children, I have always had a very spiritual bond with Pastor Rollins. I will always remember his smile and words of encouragement whenever I needed them. I will forever hold these memories very close to my heart. Even though we are going through this right now, I know that God is smiling down on our church family. He is willing to help us, and he will carry us through. May God Bless each and everyone of you at this time of bereaevement.

To Mrs. Rollins, The Rollins Family and the 31st Street Baptist Church Family: God handpicked Dr. Rollins and Doc lived his life as God had planned. Now God wants to reward His worker for a job well done. I still refer to my notes from Dr. Rollins' many sermons I was blessed to hear and to feel. When Doc would say "and let me take you to...", I could literally feel myself being lifted into the passage of this text. May you continue to be lifted by his memory as well as his teachings.

To the family of Rev. Rollins: I want you to know, that this too shall pass. Keep your faith in God. There is a time to grief, and a time to heal. Allow God to order those steps. I will keep your family in prayer. I previously was his secretary at Virginia Union, joined 31st street for a short time, got married and moved my membership to another church, which had the pleasure of having Rev. What can you say about this man of God who has touched so many lives. Words can not describe the man who showed us the power of faith and prayer. Pastor Rollins left a part of himself with every person he reached. A faithful servant of the Lord, Pastor was a great teacher of the gospel. His work will live on through everyone whose lives he touched. The spirit of God truly shined through him. I can just imagine him smiling and rejoicing because he is now in the presence of our God. Pastor we love you and we will miss you dearly.

To Mrs Rollins, the Lord will never leave you. Pastor will always be with you. You are loved by all of us and we will be your strength in this difficult time. We weep with you and rejoice with you. May God comfort you and keep his arms wrapped tightly around you. He will wipe away all of our tears. Rest now and know that Pastor is not suffering anymore.

My Dear Pastor, Friend, Father, and Brother has gone on to be with my Mother and other loving relatives. They are all at the real Holy Ghost Party!

Pastor, your Mother and God reached out those open arms, and said come on in...we want you here with us in heaven. There will be no more suffering, pain, or tears. I miss you Pastor Rollins. You were my Martin Luther King and Angel. I know God sent you my way. On those days when things just did not want to go right, you comforted me with your kind words and great wisdom. Only the Lord knows how much I love you. I am truly going to miss you... but I know that I have to be strong, so that I can take care of Saundra for you. I am going to watch over her, like you watched over me.

I know you will be back to your normal weight, because my Mother is going to fix you some of her very special meals that you enjoy. Oh, how I long to talk with you, and I will....I asked God to allow your spirit to be present with me, and he will.

Saundra and Douglass know that you can always count on me. Let us continue to remember those wonderful moments that we had with Pastor Rollins, and they will bring smiles to our face. Know that I love you both, and I do miss my Pastor. To God be the Glory. I will always love you Pastor Rollins.

It’s hard to even wrap my arms around the reality that Pastor is gone. In my heart I know that he has fulfilled his duties here and that God has called him home to reward him for all of his hard work.

To Mrs. Rollins and my church family we will get through this. Pastor has taught us to have faith and stand strong and that’s what we will do. So as we lean on and hold up one another during this difficult time we know that we have to continue this journey for Pastor and I know that he will be smiling down on us with joy and happiness in his heart.

Pastor thank you for fighting and holding on so long for us; thank you for all of your support, wisdom and leadership that has changed so many lives. You were my Pastor for 22 years and you will always be my pastor until I see you again.
I LOVE YOU!

To Saundra and Family, and the entire 31st Street Family,

It is with extreme shock, saddness and a very heavy heart that I extend my deepest expressions and positive concerns to you all. Pastor meant SO MUCH to me, and our relationship and the mutual love and respect we shared together cannot be expressed in this space. I pray for The Lord's greatest love, comfort and strength upon each of you, and I PRAISE THE LORD for His total healing of Pastor, though it's not in the manner that we all had hoped for. However, He knows BEST, and we can be comforted in the knowledge of Pastor's rich legacy of achievement and success in The Lord, and in knowing that Pastor is in the presence of Jesus, and he's been welcomed with those GREAT WORDS - "well done, thy good and faithful servant..." Pastor will ALWAYS hold a SPECIAL place in my heart and I shall NEVER FORGET him. He will be missed by each of us, but take heart in the Blessing of his being in and touching each of our lives. May The Lord continue to comfort, strengthen and keep you in His Loving arms. Pls call on me for ANYTHING! God Bless & Love,
