David Albert Hodges, age 74, of Richmond, passed away August 6, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Quill Walker Hodges; daughter, Sarah Hodges Pasowicz and her husband, Daniel Pasowicz, two grandchildren, Wyatt and Walker; two brothers, Chris and Ralph Hodges; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to family, David is survived by his long-time feathered buddy, 9Ball, a blue and gold macaw of 34 years who will miss him.

He attended and played football at Henrico High School and Augusta Military Academy (AMA), in Staunton Virginia, where he graduated in 1971. Following, he joined the US Navy and served for six years during the Vietnam War.

David was a loving husband, father and brother, and an avid fisherman and winner of the Virginia Bassmasters Classic Tournament twice. He was known worldwide as one of only two custom pool cue makers in the world. His pool cues are known as Parrot Cues. They are readily identifiable by the silhouette of his parrot, 9Ball, in the butt of each cue.

After retiring in early 2000, he created a cleaner for pool tables called David Hodges Quick-Clean that sold all over the world, before Amazon was around.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 15, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road. A private a funeral service will be held in Hollywood Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
