Deborah Wallace Obituary

Deborah Virginia Wallace

June 22, 1959 - August 19, 2024

Deborah (Debby) Virginia Wallace, 65, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Bon Secours Memorial Hospital on August 19, 2024. She was born to Richard and Virgie Evans in Grafton, Virginia, on June 22, 1959, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, cousin and friend.

She was preceded in death by her father Richard Edward Evans.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 47 years, James H. Wallace, daughter Jasmine Luna (Ritchie) of Hampton; son Brandon Wallace of Denver, CO; mother Virgie E. Evans; four brothers: Richard E. Evans II (Lisa), Gregory Evans (Teresa), Jeffrey Evans (Gwendolyn) and Byron Evans (Tammy). She leaves four grandchildren, Ritchie, Jade, Addison and Lynnea. She leaves numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Debb had a great love for Virginia and its beauty, likely because she loved being around the water, however shortly after marriage she left to travel with her husband, a member of the U.S. Navy. She lived in Hawaii, San Diego, CA, and Syracuse, NY before settling in Louisville, KY, where she would spend 20 years before returning to Virginia in 2005.

She is a graduate of Tabb High School in York County, the Pacific School for Medical and Dental Assistants in San Diego, and Sullivan University in Louisville, where she graduated summa cum laude. She loved helping others, especially the elderly, and worked as a certified medical assistant before becoming an executive assistant for Elder Care, the non-profit Kentucky Action and United Way of Kentucky.

Greater than Debby's love for Virginia was her love of God, family and friends. She had a smile that was infectious and loved being in the middle of every gathering and conversation. Her joy was being able to counsel those in need.

Funeral service will be noon, Tuesday, August 27 at Grafton Baptist Church, 1301 Old York-Hampton Hwy, Yorktown, Va. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens, 155 Butler Farm Road, Hampton.
